Kokanee fishing slows down at New Melones
Kokanee fishing is even slower than the past two weeks at New Melones.
The fish are deep and in schools. If you can find a school and stay with them you may get a few to hit, otherwise you may pull hardware through the water with little or no results. Trout fishing is about the same.
At Pardee, trout fishing is still the much better bite fishing near the dam and in the river arm. Troll slowly and use small spoons. The Excel, Triple Teaser and the No. 1 or 2 needlefish in red or white are best. Kokanee are at 100-plus feet deep and starting to school.
Wind is still a factor in the Delta, but the striped bass are showing in some impressive numbers in the Sacramento River although they are still on the small side. Trollers are doing best fishing in the area below the Rio Vista Bridge. Finding the fish and trying to stay on them during the tide changes seems to be the best method at this time.
Those spending time on Camanche trolling are still able to get limits or near limits using Spoons and moving around the lake. The fish are 30 or so feet deep and you need to just do a lot of moving to different areas.
Good luck and good fishing.
