Wrongly smeared as extremists
Citizens are right to question Obama's health care reforms
Isolate and ridicule. That's how they destroy anyone who might challenge their agenda. Radio and TV's Glenn Beck uttered these words on his radio show like he has dozens of times before in reference to the formula used by the left to eliminate the opposition.
What's sad is that it's true. Most recently the targets have been former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and TEA Party protesters. Both have been isolated and ridiculed as crazy, extreme and right-manufactured loons.
It's easy for the in-control, left-wing politicians to write off opposition like this, despite any support or facts that may work in their opposition's favor.
But it was this past week that left me completely dumbfounded.
With Congressional representatives on recess, they returned back home to hold town halls and push the idea of how rainbow and butterfly-like the proposed health care reform bill that few in Congress have admittedly read is and why it needs citizen support.
Americans from sea to shining sea showed up at the meetings full of their own ideas, questioning everything proposed and demanding to know the truth.
Each time a congressperson spoke, their case was refuted by a constituent who had obviously done their homework and knew better than the person they entrusted to make decisions for them what was right.
Bailouts, health care reform, stimulus, "cash for clunkers." The silent majority was now barking.
As town hall videos from across the country began to sprout up and gained national attention, we could observe that things aren't as rosy and delightful as our government keeps claiming they've been. All because the people have paid attention to the facts rather than the talking points.
In the dozens of town hall videos I've watched, the congressperson was usually so taken aback by being talked down to (after all, they're usually the one's talking down to us), they couldn't formulate an acceptable talking point for the frustrated citizens, or they simply walked away with their tails between their legs.
A few did stick it out through their whole town hall. And in true big government fashion, they decided to get arrogant and condescending with the people who employ them.
"We've finally got them," I thought to myself last week. "How can they say 'No!' to the will of the people when all the people are screaming what they don't want?" Smiling, I felt like the real America was accomplishing something great — a true grass-roots effort.
An hour later the evening news was on and I heard the following:
"This notion of a grass-roots campaign is totally and completely phony," Rep. Lloyd Doggett, R-Texas, said in an interview with ABC News. "The Republican Party has coordinated this apparent outrage and stirred it up."
I couldn't believe it. Literally, I screamed at the TV.
More quotes from other congressmen and women began emerging in defense of their egos and their agenda. Their artificial exterior had been bruised. It was time for damage control and payback.
They had done it again. They isolated thousands of fed-up Americans who took time out of their day to voice their concerns by labeling them as a product of the Republican Party and ridiculed them by calling them "phony."
On another newscast, more who spoke against reform were labeled "right-wing extremists" and continued to be torn down by congresspeople Those who "stormed" town hall meetings were clearly " ... out to hurt the President," right, Sen. Boxer?
But then a video was released by the Democratic National Committee that proved Beck's philosophy to a T, targeting the town hall groups that disagree with reform.
"The Right-wing extremist Republican base is back," the video begins. "Their goal: destroy President Obama and stop the change America voted for overwhelmingly for in November."
"This MOB activity is straight from the play book of the high level Republican political operatives."
We've been failed horribly by Republicans for the last eight years and now we've been shattered as a nation by Democrats within one year. From what I can tell, both parties are worthless to us.
You see, the reason why Americans are rising off the couch and marching into town halls is because the "leaders" we've put our faith in have betrayed us and are now finding new ways to write us off so they don't have to listen.
First the phone calls didn't get returned. Then the e-mails were acknowledged by an automated response but no human follow-up. Those were proceeded by protests in many major cities across America, and then came the in-person demands only to be ridiculed as jaded right-wing insanity.
I think it might be wise for you to pay attention, esteemed representatives.
America is running out of civil options. As I said on inauguration week, do right by this country because after eight years of pain and mistreatment, she can't take much more.
We're nearing the breaking point. You have the power to turn it around and make her great again. Stop putting your agendas before our country.

The gov. is already stiffing thousands of car dealers across the country so there is only two things that can happen, the dealerships close down because they can't pay their bills or they raise the prices on what they sell the average person, you and me. Now multiply that into the health industry and you create a dichotomous system where you have people using government owned health care vs (if they survive) private companies who have to keep their prices high to recover what the government won't pay back.
So you go to the store and buy steak for $.80 because you have a government card, the store paid $1.00 for it the next guy in has to pay $1.40 for the store to recover what it lost to the government customer. Is that the system you want? "
Rhodie wrote on Aug 22, 2009 2:14 PM:
Voter there is no conflict. Thinking something is working and wanting to make it better are not mutually exclusive thoughts. I think outside audits (surprise, I'm married to a tax gal, but not in audit tax) of industries is a good thing and the most involvement the government should have. There is nothing wrong with keeping an eye on things to provide the best information to the consumer.
Does our system of medicine work, yes. Should it be audited for abuses on a regular basis, yes. I think the reason costs are so out of control is that there has been no scrutiny nor public release of findings to hold companies, from insurance to suppliers, accountable. And adding Government to an uncontrolled market is only asking for more trouble. "

-Unlike you, I have the strength to not have a drink this early.
Whether you believe it or not, I have never had a drinking problem. Everything in moderation. Too much alcoholism with my Dad's brothers led some to health problems and an early death. I got snockered for the first time in years a few weeks ago and haven't had a drink since. The hangover is still fresh in my mind. Now, you may have a different definition of a drinking problem, but an occasional glow
is moderation to me. "

Oh, and my response to Brian's post about a big rump and the twinkies ("now I am offended", bla, bla) was supposed to be a joke directed at myself. I am always being accused of being too serious, so I was trying to inject some humor into the situation. "

In one post, you are concerned that they'll never survive if a public option is offered (ridiculous--that's not happened in other countries). In the other post, you want them audited because of wrongdoing (too much profit? denying care? that's capitalism).
All of your arguments conflict. You have been told that the public option is bad, and you are rationalizing, trying to make that fit with reality. "

I think a cheaper way to have dealt with the insurance industry is have a full on audit of their books. Then release the info to the public so we can see who the worst offenders were in wasting out tax dollars and then WE make the choice as to who we deal with. But instead of exposing the corrupt in the industry a bigger corrupt (who also makes the rules) is getting into the industry. "

Because it may not be optional for long. Personally I don't think the Government has the right to be involved in any business, banking, health care, auto, or making widgets. It is akin to playing basketball against a team who is also the referees for the same game. They make the rules and they choose when to enforce them.
When it comes to health care it sounds like the givernment wants to charge upto 20% less than current insurance options. If a government owned gas station came in and charged $2.40/gal vs the average $3/gallon, how long would the other gas stations last?
Here is my second fear of the government's involvement in helath insurance; what program do they run for the public doesn't lose money? Medicare is bust and welfare is a drain, why do you who support this government option healthcare think that it too won't become a big tax drain on the economy? "

And I never wonder what most men think of me as I'm just interested in what one man thinks of me and he's next to me every night. That makes everything right with the world. :-) You see, Bryan, there are men, unlike yourself, that are secure in themselves (and their sexuality) that don't need to verbally attack, slander, belittle, or harass women...especially due to cancer. Get it? And they certainly don't feel that they should put down women for having breast reconstruction after cancer. These men would never even come close to such comments made by you here, let alone defend such disgusting comments. So, go home and talk to your own wife and daughter this way. Let's see how long they deal with you. You'd better pack your bag first, just in case. :-) "

AS was already stated, reforms in how many tests the docs have to run just to cover themselves, or at least an easier option for patients to reject tests. Maybe a price list next to the tests the docs want to run along with the benifits there of. Nobody should be refused medical aid when needed but illegals should be deported afterwards, I'd even waive the medical costs in place of deportation. Docs should be able to write off (for taxes) work done for low income people. And I wouldn't mind seeing a "marketplace" for doctors where if you need something they bid on what they will charge. "

The more we defend the roudy behavior, the more it looks like all we are in favor of is roudy behavior, and the point behind the disagreement is lost.
We should re-emphasize that Obama's healthcare reform is a terrible idea because it will raise costs, increase inefficiency, ration or delay care, and make the government the ultimate decision-maker on your healthcare choices. Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel and Obamacare - Angel(s) of Death!
Dr. Emanuel believes that “communitarianism” should guide decisions on who gets care.
He says medical care should be reserved for the non-disabled, not given to those “who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens . . . An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia” (Hastings Center Report, Nov.-Dec. ‘96).
Dr. Emanuel explicitly defends discrimination against older patients:
“Unlike allocation by sex or race, allocation by age is not invidious discrimination; every person lives through different life stages rather than being a single age. Even if 25-year-olds receive priority over 65-year-olds, everyone who is 65 years now was previously 25 years” (Lancet, Jan. 31).
Obama and his medical ilk want to control costs by controlling innovation. Emanuel criticizes Americans for being too “enamored with technology” and is determined to reduce access to it.
However, Obamacare would involve technology telling doctors how to render treatment via electronically delivered guidelines called “embedded clinical decision support”. "
