Fishing with Russ
At New Melones, the kokanee fishing has slowed in the last two weeks. Fish are going deeper and are getting a bit harder to catch.
The Central Valley Angler fishing club had its annual Kokanee Derby two week ago and most had limits or near limits. The largest three fish weighed in were a little over 1 pound per fish. The best stringer was caught at 92 to 100 feet deep by Steve Quintel on the pink and white mini hoochie with a glow head.
The largest rainbow trout weighed in was 2.95 pounds and was caught while fishing deep for kokanee.
At Pardee, trout are still the larger fish to be caught and the best fishing is across the face of the dam and by the buoy line south of the dam at about 40 feet using a nightcrawler or worm wiggler.
The kokanee are plentiful using mini hoochies or spinners at 70 to 100 feet in the river arm of the lake. Bank fishing with powerbait near the marina is still doing well.
In the Delta, wind has been the biggest factor for fishing in recent weeks. There has been a little action for those trolling on the Sacramento River on the turn of the tides. There are still some reports coming from the area around Eddo's Harbor and that has been mostly on bait.
Black bass fishing has slowed a bit with the cooler weather this past week also.
At Camanche, fishing at night under lights is still producing limits of fish near the dam. Trollers are finding fish at 35 to 45 feet near the dam and in the narrows upstream to the bridge using either crawlers behind a set of trolls or fishing faster with spoons like the Excel.
Bank fishing has been a little slow. Those fishing overnight should remember the limit on this lake is only five fish per day and only one daily limit can be in possession per person.
Good luck and good fishing.
