Prayer rallies to be held tonight before the Lodi council meeting

By News-Sentinel Staff
Wednesday, August 5, 2009 6:05 AM PDT

Tonight, two rallies about prayers before the Lodi City Council meetings will take place near Carnegie Forum, where the council meets.

Lodi United will advocate for the elimination of prayers before council meetings. On the other side, The Pray In Jesus Name Project will be asking the council to allow religious leaders to pray in Jesus' name during the council prayers.

David Diskin

The council will not be discussing its invocation policy during the meeting, but both groups hope to speak briefly during the public comment time.

Gordon James Klingenschmitt, the founder of The Pray in Jesus Name Project has applied for an encroachment permit for the Lodi Area All Veterans Plaza, city spokesman Jeff Hood said. The group requested the ability to plug in a microphone, speakers and a podium.

Even though the group has requested the permit, it allows them to put the sound system in the public right-of-way, but does not mean the organization has rented All Veterans Plaza, Hood said. The other group, Lodi United, or members of the public will also be allowed to use any part of the plaza.

Lodi United formed last week to host a counter-rally, said the group's spokesman David Diskin.

I've heard the word "Junkie" as a common term for those that are, or were, addicted to drugs. The funny thing here is that Mazie is the one that brought up, and used, the term "Junkie" and now Mazie's defenders are out in force telling all that Mazie was not a "Junkie" or "ex-junkie". Is this a case of "The lady doth protest too much..."? "

Well Lodian,

The last sentence in your post is implying that Mazie may be a junkie after all even though she only said she used drugs. I don't blame MaziesDaughter for being so quick to come to her mom's defense. Perhaps a
little bit more scrutinizing of what you are going to write down is due. "

Maziesdaughter: You seem to have a hard time with comprehension and following along. I did not say the word "junkie". Your mom is the one that said it and I was quoting her. I'd say you should check with your mom on that one, but she has a hard time keeping up too. It must be a real challenge in the mazie household. lol "

She had a problem, and was able to overcome it. She never robbed, hurt or stole from anyone for her habit. I thank God every day she was able to over come her addiction. Mazies Daughter, I would go so far as to say you didn`t know your mother was a junkie untill she came home sober one night. A sad family indeed. From all the sense mom is making, perhaps she should roll one. As a human being, Mazie you make a better football bat.

And to everyone, including myself, we are in front of a key board wasting time while we pour out our souls to people we don`t know. What a sad case we all are. It is obvious that most people that post have nothing better to do, to start early and finish late proves the point. " Mazie is correct in the US phasing God out of peoples lives. It’s been done it in schools. They pass the “Hate Crime” bill, which now restricts pastors talking about certain topics. The TV show 20/20 recently fuzzed out a woman’s cross necklace as if it was an offensive symbol. Obama covered the crosses at his speech at Georgetown. Now this is their next battle. What I noticed was the timing of all of this. When California is in such a financial mess, why not threaten a lawsuit when they are hurting? It is advantageous for their cause. I view it as a bully tactic. But then again, aren’t lawsuits the weapon of choice now-a-days? Anyhow, the crusade continues until God (Jesus specifically) is wiped out of public. Mask it however you want, but that’s what is slowly happening over time. "

" Mazie, and others who haven't thought about this; had you been born on another continent, perhaps in the center of India, it is EXTREMELY unlikely that you would believe Jesus is God. Your Book says he is, but most other religions have books too that say their Lord is God.
It is an insult when a Preacher asked as a guest to lead a prayer says Let US pray..." Let him or her pray, if they began their prayer "I will now pray..." and concluded "and I ask in Jesus' (or Allah's, Buddah's, Isinagi's, etc. name..." then no one would be insulted.
In fact now that it has come to a head, a survey of local ministers indicates all but one would find such a prayer appropriate and they'd be willing to do that.
Isn't it Corinthians where it is written to show your religion by example, not by words? "

It's not that we don't want anyone to be religious or serve their God, just don't force us to have to listen to it at a damn City Council Meeting. So she asked a question and I'm answering it...we are not AFRAID of anything. Annoyed would be a better word. No, you are not hurting anyone by praying to God in Jesus' name, but why must it be done in public places? "
