Lodi Baseball Club swept by Gold Sox
Team begins final homestand today
The Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox completed a three-game sweep and handed the Lodi Baseball Club a season-high fifth straight loss with an 8-5 victory on Sunday night at All Seasons RV Stadium in Marysville.
Lodi (28-12), which held the lead in each of its last five losses, will look to close out the summer on a winning note when it hosts the Folsom Pioneers in a two-game series starting today at Zupo Field.
Today's contest, scheduled for 7 p.m., will be played in honor of local veterans, who are encouraged to attend the game. Admission is free.
Lodi had plenty of opportunities to end their losing skid on Sunday night, but left 14 runners stranded in the loss.
Alex Cervantes had an RBI single and Stephen Malcolm and Dustin Torchio had RBI groundouts in Lodi's three-run second inning. But the lead was short-lived, as Yuba (29-13) answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame on a two-run single by Adrian Perez and RBI singles by Max Stassi and Justin Lamb.
Lamb added a two-run home run in the fourth to extend Yuba's lead to 7-3. Lamb finished with three hits and three RBIs.
Lodi added a run in the sixth on another RBI groundout by Torchio and tacked on its final run when Brock Neil walked with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to cut the deficit to 8-5. However, with the bases loaded and no outs, Lodi couldn't manage another run.
Lodi stranded five runners in the final two innings.
Braxton Lawrence had two hits for Lodi and Toby DeMello singled, scored once and drove in a run. Alex Ring doubled and Zach Plancich added a base hit.
Lodi led 2-0 in Saturday's game but Yuba rallied for a 6-3 victory.
Malcolm went 3-for-4 and with an RBI triple for Lodi and Neil and Jake Fuller each had run-scoring singles. Matt Fuson added two base hits.
