Railroad cars — and residents' complaints — are still lingering
News-Sentinel Photographer
Nearly five months after the first batch of 45 to 50 railroad cars arrived on site, 360 lumber cars now sit idle on the tracks parallel to Kennefick Road, spanning from Woodbridge to Liberty Road north of Lodi.
Central California Traction began storing the unused cars on the Acampo and Woodbridge tracks in March of this year, after the economy and housing market slowed and new building supplies no longer needed to be shipped as often.
Initially met with complaints, Central California Traction has worked with local residents to make the process of storing the cars as smooth as possible, going as far to move cars away from the house of cancer patient receiving treatment at home so neighbors could keep watch over the house.
However, some residents are still unhappy with the storage of the cars.
"I think it looks ugly," said Grace Ramirez, a resident on Kennefick Road about a mile north of Woodbridge, who has several of the lumber cars parked between her house and the road. "My husband talked to the neighbors and they don't like it either. It looks like garbage," she continued.
The storage area will allow for 50 more railroad cars before there is no more room.
The cars will remain there indefinitely, until the economy or housing market pick up, Central California Traction General Manager Dave Buccolo said.

Don't get me wrong, they have the right to park where they've parked the cars, but options wise, I'm wondering if they considered parking the cars over at the yard in Stockton. "

Bigalow, there's only one track in downtown Lodi now, and that is used for the live trains that come barreling down them almost every hour.
I agree with the majority that the trains are fine where they are, the tracks have been there the longest, so the neighbors should have no right to complain, as the houses came later. "

If you think parked train cars are an issue, pray that you don't see parked cars on the road; then you will know we are in real bad shape. "

Subject: Ignorance is bliss!
Our laws do not allow big rigs to park on residential streets. Those same laws should be amended to restric trains from parking in and/or next to residential neighborhoods. "

Next to a freeway: expect vehicles & noise.
Next to a refinary or factory: smells.
Next to railroad tracks: trains and noise.
In other words- sorry, but no cigar. If ya don't like the area, move. That's why it was so cheap when ya bought it! Want nicer area?...prepare to pay for it. "
