Lodi Baseball Club struggling down the stretch
Another early lead led to another loss for the Lodi Baseball Club.
The Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox quick erased an early 2-0 deficit with a four-run second innings and held on for a 5-3 victory over Lodi on Friday night in front of 921 fans at All Seasons RV Stadium in Marysville.
It was the third straight loss for Lodi (28-10), which couldn't hold leads in each game. Seven of Lodi's 10 losses have come in the last eight games.
Matt Fuson staked Lodi to its only lead when he blasted a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.
Lodi starting pitcher Justin Cooper used three strikeouts to work out of a first-inning jam, but the Gold Sox tagged him for four runs in the second inning. Cooper walked three in the frame, including allowing the first run on a free pass with the bases loaded. Yuba's Max Stassi added a two-run single and Michael Wiseman had an RBI single to cap the big inning.
Cooper (6-2) had one of his worst performances of the summer, going six innings and allowing five runs on seven hits while walking six.
Wiseman added another RBI single in the fourth to make it 5-2 before Lodi tacked on its final run on a run-scoring single by Alex Ring in the sixth. Ring finished with two hits.
Lodi went hitless over the final three innings.
Stephen Malcolm and Jake Fuller each singled and doubled for Lodi and Brock Neil added a base hit.
Trent Evins earned the win for Yuba, allowing three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in seven solid innings.
Yuba will host Lodi today at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 6 p.m.
