Notes and Notables
Teen of the Month
Jessica Fong, a senior at Jim Elliot Christian High School, has been selected as Teen of the Month for July by the Lodi Youth Commission.
Fong has a 4.0 grade-point average and is involved in softball, basketball, art, yearbook, the robotics' animation team and California Scholarship Federation. She also participates in community service, attends church at Reality Stockton and spends time babysitting.
She enjoys art, watching classic films from the 1930s to present, going out for coffee with friends, cooking, listening to music, the travel softball team, helping to coach sports, spending time at Peterson Park and going camping and to the beach.
Fong lives with her mother, whom she says has helped her become a strong woman in Christ. She said her mother has taught her to be dedicated in all that she does and has given her the mindset of diligence and determination in all her trials.
Following graduation, she plans to attend the University of the Pacific, where she will pursue a studio art major and will possibly minor in both history and film studies.
Resident recognized for dedication to college
Byng Forsberg, of Lodi, was recently recognized as an official friend and alumnus of the School of International Studies for his continued support of the Inter-American Studies at the University of the Pacific.
The School of International Studies (SIS) was established in 1987. It grew out of the innovative programs of two of the three former cluster colleges — Callison College and Elbert Covell College. It is one of six undergraduate schools of international studies in the U.S. and requires all students to study abroad.
The school offers four majors, including international relations, global studies, development and cultural change and international affairs and commerce. The majors are designed to prepare students for careers in government, business, public service, law, journalism and education.
Forsberg received a certificate recognizing his dedication through donating his time and equipment to the program.
