Moore plays field in finale with Lodi
Sunday may as well have been Tanner Moore day at Tony Zupo Field.
Where ever fans looked, whether it was behind the plate, in the outfield, or on the pitcher's mound, the Lodi Baseball Club star was there.
Moore, playing in his final game of the season with the team, played every single position for Lodi. While he changed things up in the field, his results at the plate were the same as they have been not only this season, but when he played with the Lodi GrapeSox last season as well.
He went 3-for-5 with a homer and a double, totaling three RBIs and two runs scored to help Lodi record an 11-7 victory over the Folsom Pioneers.
Moore played each position for one inning. He started the game catching, then played the left, center and right field spots before coming to the infield where he went from third to shortstop to second base to first base. He finished the game on the mound, where he gave up only one hit in closing out the win.
"It was really fun. I have never done that before," Moore said. "I had a blast. Pitching wasn't bad, I even though hadn't pitched since my senior year in high school, but the hardest part was catching."
Moore, who plays for Lee University in Tennessee, is returning to his home state for his best friend's wedding. By the time he is done with that, Lodi's season will be close to over and Moore chose to not come back across the country to play in only a handful of games.
Moore, the starting third baseman for Lodi, leads the team in RBIs and has an average around .340 on the season. In one of his top highlights with Lodi, Moore hit a walkoff, game-winning grand slam on Thursday night. Moore said he was glad he came to Lodi to play baseball and loved playing under manager Leon Lee. "It was a great experience, I loved it," he said.
Moore got help from his teammates at the plate in Sunday's win with Stephen Malcolm going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Michael Quesada hitting a homer to finish with three RBIs and two runs scored, Alex Cervantes recording an RBI and scored a run and Zach Plancich droving in two runs and scored another.
Ryan Fischer earned the win on the mound for Lodi and Mark Lincoln and Thomas Berolzheimer pitched in relief before Moore finished the game.
On Saturday, Lodi lost 9-6 to Folsom. The Pioneers out-hit Lodi 12-4 in the game.
Alex Ring doubled, Braxton Lawrence went 1-for-2, Tyler Kuresa scored two runs and had an RBI and Andrew Oldfield and Erik Kozel each drove in runs.
Jeff Lease went seven strong innings before Ricky Patton has hit hard in 2/3 of an inning, giving up seven fours, four of which were earned, on four hits, one walk and one hit batter.
Lodi will return to action on Friday when it hosts the NorCal Longhorns at 7 p.m. at Zupo.
