Lodi 12s advance to state tournament
The Lodi Cal Ripken 12-year-old All-Stars won the Central California District 1 championship Wednesday night by beating Oakdale 5-4 in the first game and defeating Oakdale again 7-0 in the finale.
With the victory, Lodi earned a berth in the state tournament, which will be held in Pismo Beach beginning July 17.
Ryan Thompson earned the win in Wednesday's first game, allowing only two hits in three innings of work. Carlos Hinojoza pitched five scoreless innings while allowing three hits in the clincher.
Chance Trammell had four hits, Thompson and Matthew Brooksher each had three hits, Alize Evans had two hits and Cameron Daley, David Lerma, Simon Marks, Justin Swink, Tyrek White and Alex Ziemann each added a base hit for Lodi.
Lodi's 14-and-under team advanced to the district championship game with 5-3 and 8-7 victories over Manteca. However, Lodi lost to defending champion San Benito with a berth to the state tourney on the line. Both of Lodi's tourney losses came against San Benito.
