Lodi Baseball Club sweeps past El Dorado
Another series and another sweep for the Lodi Baseball Club.
Lodi defeated the El Dorado Hills Vipers 7-5 and 10-5 over the weekend at Tony Zupo Field to complete a three-game sweep and move to 22-1 on the season.
On Sunday, in Lodi's 10-5 win, former Lodi High star Ryan Fischer got his second win of the season, giving up one run on four hits and four walks with six strikeouts in six innings. Lodi's bullpen gave up runs in the final innings, but thanks to a big day at the plate from Jake Fuller, Matt Fuson and Stephen Malcolm, the squad was able to hang on for the win.
Fuller hit his third homer of the season and went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Fuson, a Lodi High graduate, also raised his season home run count to three by going 2-for-4 with a solo shot.
Former Tokay High star Malcolm went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Tyler Kuresa and Andrew Oldfield both went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI apiece.
On Saturday, Lodi came back to beat the Vipers 7-5. Oldfield hit a sacrifice grounder to tie the game at 5-all in the eighth inning before Alex Ring hit a two-run single with the bases loaded and two outs to score the winning runs.
Ring, a former Tokay High star, went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run scored. Malcolm went 2-for-4, scored a pair of runs, had one RBI and stole a base, Joe Koerper went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI and Dustin Torchio and Fuller each doubled.
Justin Cooper (4-0) got the win on the mound, giving up one run in 3 1/3 innings of relief. Thomas Berolzheimer tossed a scoreless ninth for his fourth save of the season.
Lodi is headed to Atwater to take on the Aviators in its first road trip of the season tonight at 6:30 p.m. The game will not have an audio broadcast on the team's Web site (www.lodibaseballclub.org).
Lodi will then return to Zupo for a four-game series against the Folsom Pioneers Thursday through Sunday.
On Saturday, players will be at the Avenue Grill from 9:30-11:30 a.m. to meet with fans, sign autographs and take pictures.

Lodi Legion
Lodi's senior team went 2-1 in the Lodi Legion Tournament this past weekend at Zupo Field and Lodi High School.
Lodi defeated the Stockton Mudcats 11-5 in the opener, with Ryan Pudwell doubling and driving in two runs. B.J. Bailon and Zach Costa each had two RBIs.
Joey Armstrong, Pat Armstrong and Nick Camarena each singled and drove in a run, Shane Chavez singled and Chad Holley and Luke Simon each had an RBI.
Lodi defeated the Bay Area Warriors 15-5 in the second game, getting two doubles and four RBIs from Pat Armstrong. Matt Clark had two hits and three RBIs, Andrew Cotton doubled, singled and drove in a run and Ryan Heinle singled and had three RBIs.
Tyler Stieb had a single and two RBIs, Joey Armstrong had two hits and an RBI, Pudwell doubled and Bailon singled and drove in a run.
Lodi lost to the San Francisco Seals 9-8 in the finale.
Pudwell had two hits and an RBI, Pat Armstrong homered and Mike Valenzuela tripled and drove in a run. Jon Haley had a double and an RBI, Bailon singled and drove in a run and Seth Mitchell and Luke Simon each singled.

Lodi Crush
The Lodi Crush went 2-0-1 in Saturday's pool play and then lost the first game of Sunday's elimination play at the California Grapettes FireWorks Tournament in Morada.
Pitcher Tori Mickelsen won two games for Lodi. Leading the Crush offense was Kelsey McCarty with five hits, followed by Katie Bentz and Taylor Sousa with three hits each. Alyx Alvarez, Gina Luiz, Jennifer Pfennig and Avery Anderson had two hits each and Luci Martinez and Tori Mickelsen each added one.
Auto Racing
99 Speedway
Jacob Gomes of Manteca, Scott Winters of Tracy, Aaron Coonfield of Riverbank and Ben Lewis II of Stockton won races Saturday in front of a crowd of 3,633 at Stockton 99 Speedway.
Gomes, 16, won a tight a battle with Guy Guibor of Manteca to capture the second leg of the 150-lap NASCAR Western Late Model Tri-Holiday Classic.
Winters won the Grand American Modified race, while Coonfield (Street Stocks) and Lewis (Bombers) also claimed victories.
