Galt Festival celebrates 50th anniversary
Starting tonight, Galt will begin a weekend of celebrating "The Good Ol' Times" at this year's Galt Festival. This year is the 50th anniversary of the festival, which has taken place every year since 1959.
Festival coordinators have added a children's circus with four shows daily, a petting zoo, fire cracker money scramble, diaper derby, slot car racing and even a Miss Galt Festival Queen Pageant.
In addition to dozens of festival games and rides, one huge draw for the Galt Festival is the live music daily. The Garcia Brothers Band, of Elk Grove, will perform for tonight's gala, starting at 9 p.m. and play until midnight on the main stage. The Garcia Brothers have performed with artists such as Lou Rawls, Avril Lavigne, Tower of Power and Creedence Clearwater Revisited.
On Saturday, the Silver Rockers, a classic rock band, will play from 3-6 p.m. Moments Notice will play from 7-9 p.m. on the soccer field.
Sunday's entertainment will be provided by country music's Bryan Keith Band, who will perform on the soccer field from 6-9 p.m. The same day, Slacke 'n' Loader will perform starting at 8 p.m.
Perhaps one of the biggest events of the festival is the fireworks show that will start at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.
On Sunday, there will be a custom car and bike show from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is $5, which includes admission to the festival. All cars and bikes will be from 1974 or earlier. When you attend, vote for your favorite vehicle that will be awarded a people's choice award.
