Man admits to having gun, drugs in vehicle
A year after a Lodi man was found with cocaine in his pocket and a loaded handgun in his car, he has pleaded guilty and will go to a drug treatment program.
Frank Clifford Alegre Jr., 53, pleaded guilty last Thursday to carrying a loaded firearm while transporting a controlled substance, and possession of a narcotic, according to San Joaquin County court records.
For the weapon charge, he was fined $160, placed on three years of probation and sentenced to 10 days in jail, time for which he already has credit. The drug charge is going through a deferred entry of judgment program, meaning that if he completes a treatment program then the charge can be dismissed in 18 months.
Alegre was arrested June 19, 2008, after someone called Lodi police to report a possibly drunken driver in a neighborhood off South Hutchins Street. Police found Alegre in his truck, which was parked the wrong direction.
Alegre is the son of Frank Alegre Sr., who formed Alegre Trucking. The business is now owned by another son.

Suspect who may have shot self heading to trial
A man who allegedly shot himself in the knee during an armed robbery at a Lodi home is heading to trial.
Jason John Jones, 28, pleaded not guilty Friday to charges including home invasion robbery, being a felon in possession of a gun and possessing a dangerous weapon. A judge last month ruled after a preliminary hearing that there was enough evidence to send the case to trial, and a trial date could be set July 20.
Jones was arrested after the April 27 armed robbery on Swain Drive, when several men burst into the home where several young adults were watching a hockey game. The intruders ordered everyone to the ground, then took their wallets and other valuables.
None of the victims, including a 2-year-old boy, were injured, but they said Jones was holding a gun that discharged and struck his own knee. The men fled, and Jones later showed up for treatment at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stockton, where Lodi police arrested him.
He remains in the San Joaquin County Jail on $900,000 bail, plus another $50,000 bail on an accusation of violating terms of his probation in a previous conviction for evading police and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

Man identified in fatal motorcycle crash
A Galt man who died Tuesday in a solo motorcycle crash was identified by San Joaquin County Coroner's officials Wednesday as Gary K. Olson Jr., 50.
Olson was pronounced dead at the scene of the 4:30 p.m. crash on Walnut Grove Road near State Island Road, east of the Sacramento County line.
Witnesses told the CHP that Olson was traveling west at more than 100 mph when he reached a curve and lost control of the 2007 Yamaha RS, according to the California Highway Patrol. Olson went off the north side of the road and was thrown from the motorcycle.
The motorcycle had been reported stolen that morning in Davis, where the owner had placed it in the back of a pick-up truck after the motorcycle was involved in a traffic collision.
Olson was currently on probation for a misdemeanor weapons conviction in April, according to Sacramento County court records. He had previously been sentenced to four years in prison in 1996 for a burglary conviction in Sacramento County, and two years in prison after a 2002 drug possession conviction in San Joaquin County.
The CHP said there was no immediate sign of drug or alcohol involvement in Tuesday's crash, but investigators are awaiting toxicology test results, which typically take at least several weeks.
