Carlie Buchanan bounds into Junior Olympic regional
Accomplishment: Lodi Track Club jumper Carlie Buchanan bounded into the Junior Olympic regionals with a stellar showing at the Pacific Association Track and Field Championships this past weekend in Livermore.

Buchanan, 11, a Woodbridge resident and an incoming seventh grader at Ben Holt Academy, advanced in the high jump, the 80 hurdles and the long jump in the Midget Girls Division. She finished first in the high jump with a mark of 4 feet, 1 1/2 inches, a new personal record. She was third in the 80 hurdles with a time of 14.73 seconds and fifth in the long jump (13-3).
Buchanan will compete in the Region 14 meet July 10-12 in Bakersfield.
Family: Randy and Shauna Buchanan; sisters Caity, Cassie and Cori and brother Chuck.
Favorite sport: Track. "I like to sprint and jump," said Buchanan, who noted that she grew up watching older brothers and sisters compete at Lodi High.
Favorite athlete: Buchanan said swimmers Michael Phelps and her Chuck Buchanan served as motivation for her.
Favorite lodi restaurant: Rick's New York Style Pizza. Buchanan said she loves Rick's pepperoni pizza.
Favorite tv show: American Idol. "I'm really into singing and like to see people audition," said Buchanan, who has performed the national anthem at many local sporting events.
Favorite word: Fun.
Favorite hobbies: Watching TV and playing the piano and guitar.
Phone or e-mail: Buchanan prefers e-mails over phone calls.
"Phone calls cost minutes and can get me into trouble with my parents," Buchanan said.
Plans: To clear 4-2 in the high jump and reach 15-10 in the long jump, which she has done on one other occasion.
Dream vacation: Hawaii. Buchanan said she's never visited the island before.
Worst habit: "When I clean up or someone else cleans up its gets messy right away," Buchanan said.
