It was apparently the back handsprings and back tuck that landed Galt High graduate Brittany Lampson on the cheer squad at University of California, Santa Barbara.
There are few freshman cheerleaders who make college squads during tryouts. In fact, Lampson was only one of five selected at UC Santa Barbara.
"It was really awesome," she said of the honor. "I think it's going to be a good experience and let me make more friends. It will make my freshman year a little easier."
Lampson, who is already practicing with the team, will be a college freshman this fall. She graduated from Galt High just a month ago.
While there, she not only participated in cheerleading, but was also on the track team, where she scored the most league points for the girls' team running the hurdles and other races.
She was an NCA All-American Cheerleader for all four years, cheer captain for three and track captain for two. She also performed at the Disney World Christmas parade last winter.
Lampson spent Memorial Day weekend at the university and in a clinic trying out. Only 25 of the 50 contenders from all grades made the team, including Lampson.

Although she weighed going to both University of California, San Diego, and California State University, Fresno, she said felt most at home during a tour to the university in Santa Barbara, so chose it.
This summer, she is currently working at her church's sports camp in Stockton, which is right up her alley since she wants to be an athletic physical trainer.
Last year, Tiara Temple graduated from Galt High and was accepted to University of California, Riverside, and made the cheer squad there.
Although she couldn't make it to the university's cheer tryouts, the video she mailed to the coaches was enough to earn her a place on the squad.

Ease up a bit sister! OMG there wasn't a story about death and destruction on the front page, how are we going to survive?
Galt not close to Lodi? Huh? We are the closest City to you. Further we support your city and your paper. I know I subscribe to the LNS, as I'm sure many Galtonians do.
And yes, I know Brittany. She is a credit to all youth, not just youth from Galt. She is worthy of a little fanfare, even a front page now and then. "
