Joseph Higgins
Retired
Joseph J. Higgins, 93, of Galt, died on June 20. He was born on March 5, 1916, in Chicago.
Mr. Higgins was a boy scout troop leader at St. Bernardine Catholic Church. He was active in Knights of Columbus at St. Isabel Catholic Church and at St. Christopher Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, reading and listening to classical music. He was active with conservation groups and the Galt Library. He retired from Corn Products, Argo, Ill. in 1978.
He is survived by his daughter, Beth Gemkow, of Wheaton, Ill.; son, Michael Higgins, of Yerington, Nev.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Garrett; sisters, Gertrude Danielson, Mary Bonette and Kathleen Deady; and parents, James and Margaret Higgins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Galt on Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
Committal will be Thursday at Galt Cemetery following mass.
Visitation will be held at Ben Salas Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. following visitation.
Ben Salas Funeral Home is assisting family with arrangements.
