More than four years ago, Robin Knowlton and her husband, Stefan Sekula, realized a need for a fine arts gallery in Lodi.

"We were surprised by the artists — nationally known artists — who live in an around the area, but we couldn't find their work anywhere locally," Knowlton said.

The Lodi residents and longtime art collectors decided to satisfy this need and give local artists a home by opening The Knowlton Gallery in Downtown Lodi. The gallery is now the only privately run fine arts gallery in the Stockton, Lodi and Galt areas.

Visitors and locals enjoy the large gallery, which offers exhibits featuring paintings, photography and even handmade jewelry. The shows alternate between one-month exhibits and two-months group shows.

In the past four years, The Knowlton Gallery has featured work by Gil Dellinger, Ning Hou, painters of Yosemite, Roman Loranc and many others.

Though The Knowlton Gallery may be a Lodi gem, word is getting out nationwide about their art collections.

"I have a pretty diverse collector base — (local and all over the country)," said Knowlton, who has also sold work to collectors in other countries.

The gallery is also great for locals wanting to expand their artistic skills or learn fundamentals of painting. Workshops hosted by the gallery, held in the gallery itself and at outdoor locations, are taught by many of the nationally known and respected artists.

With about 16 workshops a year, as well as trunk shows two or three times a year, the gallery is becoming an art hub for the Central Valley.

"This gallery is becoming a destination for people," Knowlton said.
