Parolee, deputies collide after brief Lodi vehicle pursuit
A parolee led deputies on a brief chase early today before losing control and colliding with their patrol vehicle east of Lodi, San Joaquin County Sheriff's officials said.
Nobody had major injuries, though two deputies and a passenger in the suspect's car were all taken to a hospital. They were treated and released.
The suspect, 22-year-old Kevin Grimes, was not injured and was taken to jail.
Two deputies were on patrol at 4 a.m. when they tried to stop a vehicle they suspected was being driving by a wanted parolee, according to a Sheriff's news release. They tried to pull the vehicle over at Kettleman Lane and Tretheway Road, but Grimes allegedly fled.
The one-minute pursuit lasted for six-tenths of a mile until the dead-end of Kettleman Lane, where both cars collided.
Grimes' passenger, a 23-year-old woman, was not arrested.
Grimes was booked into the county jail on suspicion of evading police, vandalism, resisting police and possession of a hypodermic needle.
He is being held without bail because he is accused of violating the terms of his parole. Jail records show he is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Lodi court.
