San Joaquin County residents may acquire free mosquitofish to kill mosquitoes on Tuesday in Lodi.

The county's Mosquito and Vector Control District will distribute mosquitofish from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Lodi Softball Complex parking lot, 401 N. Stockton St.

Each person will be limited to 15 mosquitofish as long as supplies last. Residents must provide the name, address and location where the fish will be placed. Ideal locations are ornamental ponds, neglected swimming pools and animal water troughs, according to district officials.

For those who can't make it Tuesday, residents can pick up mosquitofish on Tuesday in Tracy, Wednesday in Ripon and Escalon, June 25 in Manteca and Lathrop and June 26 in Stockton.

Garage sale for a lung transplant

In an effort to raise funds to pay for a lung transplant for Lodi resident Alicia Brogle, the Brogle family will hold a yard sale today through Sunday at 729 Westwood Ave. in Lodi.

Brogle, 32, lives with cystic fibrosis and needs an oxygen machine to breathe most days. Before she can be put on Stanford's list for a transplant, she needs to raise $9,000 to pay for a medical-assisted flight to the University of California, Los Angeles.

Brogle was born with the genetic lung disease, which has no cure. She has already outlived her original life expectancy of 14 years.

She is confident her family and community will be able to raise enough money for the flight, as well as for her sister to be able to live in Los Angeles and provide 24-hour care to Brogle after the surgery. Following the surgery, Brogle plans to return to her home in Lodi and use the fashion design degree she earned at San Joaquin Delta College.

To make a donation to Brogle's lung transplant fund, visit www.transplantfun.org and type "Brogle" in the yellow box on the left side. You may also send checks to the National Transplant Assisted Fund, 150 N. Radnor Chester Road, Suite F-120, Radnor, PA 18097. To pay over the phone with a credit card, call (800) 642-8399.

No major injuries in four-car crash on Highway 12

Nobody received major injuries Wednesday night when a vehicle rear-ended others stopped for construction on Highway 12.

The chain-reaction collision involved four vehicles and caused even more traffic problems near the Mokelumne River Bridge at the San Joaquin/Sacramento county line.

Though a medical helicopter was called to the scene, it was not needed because the injuries were minor, said California Highway Patrol Officer Angel Arceo. Some people went in ambulances to hospitals in Lodi and Stockton.

The crash happened at 8:51 p.m., when a westbound vehicle rear-ended another. Cars were backed up over the bridge due to road construction, but the at-fault driver apparently didn't notice or couldn't stop in time.

All lanes were completely blocked for about half an hour, Arceo said. One lane was then reopened, and both were fully open at 11 p.m.
