Flying Tigers 2nd in tourney
The Flying Tigers freshman AAU boys basketball team placed second at the Rocklin Tournament over the weekend.
The Flying Tigers battled in game one, but fell 41-40 to the Sutter Dawgz after Sutter hit a last-second inbounds basket to win the game. Chris Abdullah led the team with nine points, Sam Gotelli scored eight (including two 3-pointers), Patrick Lugo scored eight, Derek Fox added seven, Spencer Upham totaled three, Xavier Cesena added a 3-pointer and Brandon Claunch finished with two for the Flying Tigers.
In game two, the Flying Tigers again had a tough battle with the Chico Tarheels, but hung on for a 39-32 win. Abdullah and Fox led the team with 10 points each. Gotelli scored nine, including two 3-pointers, Lugo scored six, Upham and Cesena added two points each. Fox had a double-double, adding 11 rebounds to his 10 points.
In game three, the Flying Tigers trailed Jesuit by as much as 16 points, but went on a 16-3 run in the fourth quarter for a 43-41 comeback victory. Gotelli led the Flying Tigers with 13 points (including one 3-pointer), Abdullah scored 11, Fox scored eight, Upham scored six, Lugo added five and Jack Cronin chipped in four.
