U.S. needs Guantanamo base for defense

Saturday, June 6, 2009 6:28 AM PDT

The Monroe Doctrine protected the United States for the first 100 years of its history until the Spanish-American War.

After that, our naval presence at Guantanamo Bay protected our southern coasts and marine shipping to and from their ports past Cuba into the Atlantic Ocean.

When Russia tried to place missile bases in Cuba, President Kennedy was willing to go to war to protect our national defenses. Remember?

Recently, Guantanamo has been used to house a prison, which can be closed without strategic loss, but it still is vital that the United States retain rights to this strategic real estate in Cuba for our national defense. Without it, we are less safe.

" The Guantanamo "real estate" is not something that should be relinquished, as we would be unable to ever get it back. As far as housing terrorist "POW's" (that's probably not politically correct, but let's assume it's understandable for the moment), the U.S. could save a bunch of dollars by simply dropping all of them off in the middle of the Mojave, and telling them "You're Free". Of course, they would be dropped off with no food, water, maps, worry beads, copies of the Koran, or sunscreen!
Due process? Bah Humbug! Due process should be a 9MM at point blank. "

" Sven, I suspect that the reason you don't want to look is because you already know the answer. The answer being that you can't find a single example of a terrorist reengaging in terrorist activities, who was released at the behest of the Bush white house. "

" Cogito,
I didn't suggest that Obama released anyone, or that Bush did. The following statement indicates you are aware of some Bush detainies being released:

"Whether Bush released, or Obama releases these guys, they are terrorists, and they go back to doing what they do."

I'm aware that some Bush detainees were released sometime in the past, and several wound up dead or were recaptured engaging in combat against us. You find the citation. You need the practice.

Finally, not everything bad in the world is the result of Barak Obama being elected president. It might just be that the previous occupant caused so much trouble around the world that the right now needs to blame the resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. for all the ill's, having had to hold their tounges for 8 years. "

" Ivan, you are here. Can I ask you some questions about Israel and Palestine?

I trust your opinion.

I am curious what would be wrong with 2 states with actual boundaries? Is it the two 2 states? or the boundaries?

Thanks in advance. "

Any lives lost by these released prisoners will be blood on Odumbas hands, and he should be impeached and tried for treason should it happen. "

In your first post (6-6-09, 5:40PM), you blamed President Obama (or Odumba as you put it) for the release of all of these terrorists. Then you attempt to attenuate your original point: "Whether Bush released, or Obama releases these guys, they are terrorists, and they go back to doing what they do."

So how many did Bush let go and how many did Obama let go? Was it a percentage like 90% Bush and 10% Obama or 50/50, or what? "

" Cogito, are those the same activist judges that (s) elected GW Bush? Before saying anything about activist judges, consider those lame judges who selected GW Bush and sent us into a phony war with well over 4000 young soldiers slaughtered for large corporate profits and oil. Slow down on the juice, sonny. "

Remember, Bush graduated with about 25% more grade points at Yale as did John Kerry (76 to 101 as I recall Time Magazines report of it). Plus, he learned how to fly a fighter jet, Kerry learned how to drive a boat. "

To be fair, Dummy-U opened the nickname can of worms himself by refusing to call anyone by their actual name.

Besides, it was Bush's own brother who said that W was so dumb that he would climb over a glass wall to see what was on the other side. "

As for my source of the last material, I remember now. Tom Sullivan read the Pentagons press release, over the air, verbatim. Thank God for conservative talk radio or we'd never find out what's really going on in this country. "

" One final thought: It doesn't matter who was sitting in the oval office if the prisoner was released on order of an activist judge. In that case, the President would not be the one held accountable. Only the ones Bush, or Obama, had input concerning their release. If they were released against the presidents wishes, then he is not culpable. "

Whether Bush released, or Obama releases these guys, they are terrorists, and they go back to doing what they do. We need to keep them in prison, isolated from other prisoners who they could recruit. Sending small cells of them to prisons nationwide is pure stupidity. These guys were put into Gitmo for a reason. "

If so, I eagerly await Cogito's demand that Bush be arrested for treason. "
