Galt needs more shopping areas
I was just reading in the letters to the editor a letter from Peggy Hickey about not being able to shop in Galt.
As you can see in driving through the small village of Galt, there are more and more buildings becoming vacant. The City Council seems to like it that way. However, they do admit that they are hard-pressed for money to continue running the police department as it should be run. Their super flea market just isn't doing the business it used to, and people have lost interest in its junk.
I, too, would like to have a place where I could buy some clothing in my own hometown and not have to drive to Lodi or Elk Grove. However, both of these cities appreciate our business.
Wal-Mart wanted to build a store in Galt, which would provide anything a person could want. Their slogan is "If we don't have it, you don't need it."
Doesn't the City Council realize that when we go to other towns to shop, we also eat and spend our money there?
Of course, we do have an abundant selection of Mexican restaurants here, but I can't eat that much Mexican food. It shouldn't be too long before downtown Galt blends in with the old section of town, and maybe we won't need a City Council. Show some intelligence, City Council, and let's keep our shopping money here in Galt.
