Visit Lodi! celebrates National Tourism Week
Travel and tourism is a vital component to Lodi's economy. That is why Visit Lodi! is joining with hundreds of cities and states in an annual salute to National Tourism Week, which is recognized nationwide May 9-17.
Not only does tourism generate tens of millions of dollars in visitor spending in Lodi each year, it supports local jobs and businesses as well as provides tax revenues to the city's general fund which in turn benefits all citizens by helping to pay for public services. Additionally, every tourism dollar spent turns over 2 1/2 times before leaving the community, boosting local economic spending and growth.
Visit Lodi! is celebrating National Tourism Week by honoring an individual and a business that have significantly contributed to the Lodi Tourism effort at their Annual Tourism Luncheon taking place Thursday May 14th at Wine & Roses Hotel, Restaurant and Spa. Daryl Geweke, of Geweke Real Estate, will be honored as Lodi's Tourism Advocate of the Year, while Michael-David Winery will be honored as Winery of the Year.
We hope that all citizens will join with the Visit Lodi! Conference and Visitors Bureau in recognizing the contributions of these worthy individuals as well as the importance of tourism's contributions in Lodi.
Tickets for the Tourism Luncheon can be purchased by calling Visit Lodi! at (209) 365-1195.

This is an area I know something about since it was my college major (Recreation and Tourism). Tourism opportunities are something I pay attention to. Lodi is as exciting as flat soda on a warm day whenn it comes to tourism. There is nothing that would attract significant groups from a distance. Even the wine festivals are basically locals and limited wine-snobs (used affectionatly since my parents are ones).
No, If Lodi really wants to be a tourist destination then they need to look at what can be brought in to attract people to stay in the hotels, eat the food, buy wine and local flavor. "

Like some really really big, yet inconspicuous neon signs pointing visitors to the Wine and Visitors center or gargantuan billboards depicting Lodi Lake and some advertisements for Downtown Lodi. "
