Celebrate Mama! event will pamper mothers
Mothers of all ages and stages will be celebrated at the second annual Celebrate Mama! event Saturday.
The one-stop shopping event will feature a wide variety of Mother's Day gifts, pampering services and crafts for children to make.
Wendy Vaz, the celebration coordinator, first started the event last year after realizing there wasn't any one-stop shopping for Mother's Day information and ideas.
"We're opening up the festival to those who want to help a special mom feel good from the inside out," she said in a press release.
Vendors at the event will include lactation consultants, family birth professionals, child development experts, massage therapists, photographers and preand post-natal fitness experts. Entertainment will be included and a silent auction to benefit Walk for the Health of It will also be held.
Celebrate Mama! will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hutchins Street Square. Admission is free.
Linden Elementary will reopen today after scare
San Joaquin County has advised administrators to reopen Linden Elementary School today after it was closed due to a swine flu scare.
The school closed Monday and Tuesday after a Linden Elementary student was classified as probably having swine flu.
The county's Public Health Services Department announced on Tuesday that schools and child-care centers no longer need to close or dismiss students for a confirmed or probable case of swine flu.
Focus should be centered on early identification of ill students or staff, encouraging parents to keep children home if they are ill, and teaching children to cover their mouths when coughing and wash their hands frequently, according to Health Services.
On Monday, the county confirmed it had one case of the swine flu, found in a 31-year-old Tracy woman. Her infant child and the Linden student have been classified as probable.
Schools throughout the county are taking every necessary precaution to ensure that schools are a healthy place for their students, according to the county Office of Education.
Some of these steps include continuously sanitizing desks and chairs, keeping hand sanitizer with alcohol and plenty of facial tissue available and sending students who are ill home.
