No valid reason for backing pot prohibition
This letter is in regard to the Lodi City Council reviewing a temporary ban on medical marijuana outlets.
It's amazing that fascist little towns all over California are seeking to ban medical marijuana even though it is legal under state law and the Feds are now out of the picture, when they have not stopped recreational use with 70 years of reefer madness lies. They cannot cite any valid reasons for supporting marijuana prohibition other than the original racist lies used to outlaw marijuana:
"Marihuana influences Negroes to look at white people in the eye, step on white men's shadows and look at a white woman twice." (Hearst newspapers nationwide, 1934)
"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the U.S., and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana can cause white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and any others."
" ... the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races."
— Federal Bureau of Narcotics Director Harry J. Anslinger, 1930
"Reefer makes darkies think they're as good as white men."
— Federal Bureau of Narcotics Director Harry J. Anslinger, 1929
"Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality and death."
"Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind."
"(Smoking) one (marihuana) cigarette might develop a homicidal mania, probably to kill his brother." (U.S. Government Propaganda To Outlaw Marijuana, www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/hemp/taxact/t3.htm)
Lodi is merely expressing the official U.S. policy regarding marijuana during the 1930s, '40s and '50s. They no longer dare to advertise the racism behind the pot laws they love so much, but they rejoice at being able to punish marijuana "criminals." One can only wonder what their next injustice will be.

As I began my own treatment with Cisplatin, the nausea and days of non-stop vomiting were quelled by this one "magical" medication. I didn't have to smoke it either. For the balance of the seven weeks on chemo I never got sick again and I wasn't "high" either. There are alternatives to getting stoned; but I suspect that in spite of all the arguments toward completely legalizing this drug, it is this effect that is at the very heart of the movement. Escaping from reality doesn't solve anything.
I agree with Cogito on this one; in all my 50+ years I've never once heard of the "reasons" the author puts forth in his letter as to why marijuana should remain illegal. The fact remains - it IS illegal and it should stay that way. "

You can get some sort of high off most perscription meds and even a lot of cough meds. If you want to keep the ban on pot because people get high off it then, by extension of your argument, you should be against most medications. Abuse of any medication is always wrong and can lead to bad things, why is marijuana singled out of the large number of things that people get high on AND still get from the dr.'s? Becasue of an effective campaign 50yrs ago.
I think an independent lab should do testing and establish just what the benifits, if any, there are to marijuana and then we go from there. Obviously it is not as harmful as most think but i also know it doesn't treat everything it is claimed to treat. "
