Government spending, taxes protested in Lodi

While waving American flags and holding up signs with the motto, "Taxed Enough Already," more than 200 people attended a tea party to protest taxes and government spending Wednesday.

"We work so hard and give so much to this country and government, and all we ask is that they listen to us," said Brandon Jones, who owns a local business.

While the group says it is not affiliated directly with Republicans, there were other tea party protests against Obama's spending around the country that the Republican party organized. The group chose All Veterans Plaza because taxpayers pay for it and it's a patriotic monument, said Elizabeth Williams, who was one of the organizers.

After attending the Sacramento protest earlier today, Lodi resident Dan White said he attended both rallies because it is important to speak up.

"You don't know if you can change things, but you got to try," he said.

Clint Wilcox, who is vice chair of the United Republicans of America, said he was impressed with Lodi's quick organization. He said there were about 40 protests organized in the state.

"I wanted to support a smaller group that just came out and wanted to make a statement in the area ... There are a lot of frustrated people who don't recognize their country anymore," Wilcox said.

Williams emphasized that her group, which decided on the name Citizens in Action, wanted to create an atmosphere where anyone could come voice their concerns at an open mic.

"We weren't here to talk to the people; we wanted to talk with the people," Williams said.

While standing in the audience with a sign that says "Is my allowance safe?" Evan Madill watched his mother talk about how she hopes there will be other protests on the issue.

Being with like-minded people was one of the reasons John Landley attended both the Sacramento and Lodi protests.

"It's the only outlet we have," he said. "We feel alone. No one is listening to us."

At the end of the protest, people who had tea bags walked over to the fountain and tossed them in, but Williams said she brought a rake and a trash bag to clean them up.

Next Citizens in Action event: Save Our Sovereignty will be held June 14 on Flag Day.

Posting your "ankle biter" comment and those of its ilk, uttered by others, is the reason that we're so divided and those in charge are able to divide and conqueor Americans. Too busy holding on to your petty little liberal arguments and bashing the other side to really see how we're all being fleeced.

But this is just another attempt to divert attention from the fact that virtually the entire Congress voted to go to war and that in spite of a number of our so-called leader's insisting that the war was lost and that we should simply walk away, it is clear that we will be leaving Iraq in decidedly better shape than when we found it.

But to admit such things would be contrary to the constitution of the far-left-zealot crowd. The only way they can win is if the war is a failure. And I know of no right-minded American who would even begin to believe that would be good for America or Iraq. "
