Cards in for discounts on prescription drugs
Starting today, Galt residents can get free discount cards that provide an average savings of 20 percent on prescription drugs at all pharmacies in Galt. Uninsured residents or people who have specific medicines not covered in their insurance plans can use the cards.
The cards will be accepted at all Galt pharmacies, and they are also good for mail order or online purchases.
To get a card, pick one up at the City Clerks’ office and the Finance Department at 380 Civic Drive or at the Parks and Recreation Department at 610 Chabolla Avenue. To print one at home, go to http://www2.caremark.com/nlc.
Since it is the beginning of the program, Councilman Andrew Meredith and Donald Haines have also offered to home deliver cards residents request during the first few weeks.
To get a home delivery, send a letter to City Hall at 380 Civic Drive, Galt, CA 95632 or e-mail galtcitycouncil@yahoo.com or clerk@ci.galt.ca.us. Make sure to include your name, address and phone number.
The discount cards are a perk of belonging to the National League of Cities, Meredith said, and to receive the cards, Galt had to go through an eight-week application process.

Counties awarded money to reduce tire waste
San Joaquin and Sacramento are among the counties that were awarded money to clean up illegal tire disposal sites, which can pose fire threats, breed mosquitos, rodents and other disease-carrying pests, according to the California Integrated Waste Management Board.
San Joaquin County was awarded $258,265 in state funds, while Sacramento County will receive $270,943.
Funds for the tire cleanup program come from the California Tire Recycling Management Fund, which is funded through the $1.75 fee paid by motorists on the purchase of each new tire sold in California. The Board receives $1 of this fee, with the rest allotted to California emission-related programs.
