New boathouse ready at Lodi Lake
Watching the three parts of the Lodi Lake boathouse lowered into position by a huge crane and put together on Wednesday was the end of a long journey for Carol Meehleis.
"It's been two years of pushing and pulling volunteers, because it has been hard times," Meehleis said. "We've climbed mountains in this community before, and this was a mountain."
The boathouse will store all of the Lodi Lake rental boats and three city boats in the metal structure. At night, the boats will be floated into the boathouse, which will be closed with a locking garage door. To prevent vandalism, the boathouse even has an alarm system.
Meehleis Modular Buildings and the Lodi Centennial Group donated the boathouse to the city.
The boathouse cost about $300,000, most of which was covered through donated supplies and labor from local construction companies. About $60,000 was raised in cash for the project.
The city has also used state bond money to finance improvements to the parking lot and front section of the park, said Parks and Recreation Interim Director Jim Rodems.
He said the new boathouse is finished at a great time because Lodi Lake will remain full during the winter from now on, and programs will be offered year round. He said the city will have a dedication for the boathouse in April or May.
Carol Meehleis and her husband, Bill, brought their grandchildren to the installation, so they could see the new addition to Lodi. By having them there, she hopes they realize the importance of the boathouse for Lodi and keep it from vandalism in the future.
"In every community now, it's important to keep what is ours safe because we don't have the money to buy more," she said.

They should have been paying the city for the self esteem it built! "
