Why should my generation pay for the greed of politicians and big business?
For the last month I have been eating, sleeping and breathing our state and national economy crisis and I truly believe it made me ill.
My evidence is that I was sick in the beginning of the month, went on vacation, was fine, returned and felt awful again.
My vacation took me out of the world of Internet news updates, talk radio, newspaper headlines and TV screen tickers. I didn't think about it at all and I recovered almost immediately.
I returned a week later and two days back into my routine, here came another headache.
Wondering what was making me feel this way, I started really looking within and feeling emotions as they happened, examining them, questioning why they were there.
It seemed that whenever someone started talking about the economy or government, whether it was in passing or directly, I would become so angry, so enraged, that I began to get headaches.
So upon reflection, I finally realized that I have such strong convictions as it pertains to what's going on in America right now, it's no wonder I'm making myself sick with worry and anger.
The economy: I'll admit, I was crossing my fingers that our new president might have a good plan to deal with America's multi-trillion dollar debt. But to suggest spending more? Seriously? Billions more?!
I have a great idea, how about we fire everyone on Capitol Hill who had anything to do with outrageous spending in the last six years, from approving spending, to spending money themselves. From private limousines, golden toilets, etc. Why don't we have an audit of the government? Because it's pretty obvious even presidentially-backed candidates for spots in the White House have issues paying taxes — but taking — is no problem.
Really, it just boggles my mind as to why our hard-earned dollars are being spent to assist those who failed in the game of capitalism. Big business is big business in America so that they may have the freedom to succeed and to fail, much like homeowners have the freedom to fail.
It's obvious that has happened on a very large scale. Why is it up to my generation and my kids and probably their kids' to worry about it and pay it back? Whatever happened to personal responsibility?
Because such a big group of Americans are failures when it comes to handling money, the ones who are success-stories or who maintain a responsibility with finances get penalized.
Do I feel bad for those people losing their homes? Of course. But it could have been avoided altogether had the homeowners used good, fiscally sane judgment.
I'm sure there are a few exception stories out there, but in reality, everyone and their dog turned into real estate agents a few years ago. It was as if everyone was approved to buy a house; everyone could take part in the American dream; everyone had the freedom to succeed and to fail.
My loyalty to big-businesses America went out the door when I was very young and discovered that the majority of U.S. big businesses outsourced thousands of jobs or hired illegal immigrants to perform slave labor at little to no expense.
CEOs earned millions in bonuses a year, profits continued to climb, shareholders continued to smile.
And that's what it really boils down to isn't it? Profits. Not heart, not human feelings, but profits. Well now that the balloon has popped and the profits game has pulled the "Go to jail!" card, what do you all have to say for yourselves?
Greed in this country has literally removed our presence as an international dominance. Now we're just printing money so that we have it. Backed by the "good faith" of the U.S. government. Psshh, spare me!
California decides it will raise taxes again to try to offset its gaping deficit. I seem to recall a certain Hollywood superstar turned joke of a politician who ran on a campaign promise that taxes wouldn't be raised. As he put it, "It isn't the people of Caleefornia's fault."
Another lie.
What in God's name does it take before this state, this country, starts a revolution to be able to fire politicians and hire ones with just an ounce of morals, ethics and understanding of what our founding fathers spoke of in the first place?!
If we want real change, real accountability, it has to come from within.
Say it with me: "We the people ... "

My point??? Margaret River is known for their vineyards and great wine. She does not rent her home out, but allows friends and family there all the time... even when she is not.
Next time she is here I will introduce you and your wife to her. If she likes you (what is not to like)... who knows... you may have a new "vineyard" escape.
Google Maragret River. Better yet I will email you some of the photos she just took of her back yard.
For a local escape (Cali)... go to Mendocino. They have great wine events this time of year to compliment their spectacular whale watching. "

I don't see anything wrong with this approach.
I've also noticed that Obama seems to go along with the Bushian status quo; then he does something that gets that crowd squawking like a bunch of chickens. So he is very interesting to watch and I am curious as to what will come of all this.

Two things he said made points with me:
1. we will restore a sense of fairness and balance to our tax code by finally ending the tax breaks for corporations that ship our jobs overseas.
If shipping American jobs overseas, or hiring H1B visa workers or illegal aliens here in the U.S. is no longer a lucrative option, then the probability exists that more Americans will have good paying jobs. "

The Federal Reserve.
Don't know if you still follow Ron Paul, Wade; but he has a bill in to Abolish the Federal Reserve. Barring that, he has another bill in to enable Congress to audit the Federal Reserve.

Cogito and Stan - I am not an apologist for any President including Obama. And Stan, I don't hate Bush. I feel sorry for the inept narcissistic sociopath that left town with below freezing approval ratings. I will never make excuses or be a co-dependent for Obama like some of you here do for Bush. More often than You Cog, I do try to research what I hear and say. Are You trying to say that Freddie and Fannie were the bulk of the bad loans being made? Got news for ya big fella, most bad loans were Conventional and creative by big lending Institutions. There were 25+ FDIC insured banks with huge holdings that went away in 08 from seedy lending, You can Google the list. Under your other Hero Reagan, that stood over the S&L crisis 2,377 banks failed, representing 67% of the 3,559 Bank failures from 1934 to now. Starting to see a little pattern here with your Party, deregulation and greed? Something had to be done to stop the bleeding and Obama will live or die by this Economic plan. "

Things across the pond aren't much different.
To politicians, we're little more than meaningless blobs on a monitor. Bring on the summer of rage. We're the ants in their garden. The bacteria in their stools. Politicians have nothing but contempt for us.

"The Dow was at 14,000 and unemployment was at 5%, then the Democrats took over Congress. Nuff said."
Nuff said for who?? Meat heads that don't know any better? On the day your Chimp Bush took Office, the National debt was $5.727 Trillion. And the day we let the door hit em where the good Lord split em, it was pushing $10 Trillion. That's a 71% increase on Bush's watch. Hell, the Debt limit was raised 7 times by the Bush Admin. It was the biggest increase under ANY President in U.S history. A couple of weeks after Bush took Office, He addressed the Republican Congressional Retreat in Williamsburg and declared that His Budget "pays down the National Debt." In recent years, Bush has never mentioned National Debt. So the 2 yrs since the Mid-Term "Thumpin" is where all this spending took place? And who's Policies were the Dem's funding in Congress Cog? I think I'm reading You loud and clear Cog..if one inherits a decent economy and then leaves an abyss to climb out of, that can be credited to the two years the Dem's controlled Congress. Sorry, that little doggy don't hunt! "

Don't worry wade your generation will repudiate this debt and have a lower standard of living do to the excesses of the left. You can't fund a hamock for all those who need "help" and expect the country to survive. The next decade is when the bill is coming due, get ready. "
