WOW Science Museum in Lodi to officially open
The staff of the World of Wonders Science Museum have put in many hours, and many fundraisers have been held. After five years of preparation, the museum will hold its grand opening this weekend — opening its doors for patrons to check out its 35 exhibits.
Sally Snyde, president of the museum, said everything in the museum is ready to go.
"It's exciting we've come this far," she said. "We are finally going to open our doors."
The museum held a soft opening in December and Snyde said over 2,400 people came through the doors during the nine-day period. In a time where businesses are closing, she feels it is a positive event for Lodi.
"We want to keep the buzz going. It's kind of a light at the end of the tunnel. The community needs something positive," she said.
In addition to the exhibits, the museum features a retail store, "The WOW Science Store." Snyde said everything in the store is science-related and the products available can't be purchased anywhere else. Some of the items include magnetic gears, life-like animal puppets and space writing pens.
Special activities will be held during the grand opening. Saturday's activities will include:
Sunday's events will include:
There will be opportunities to meet staff from Micke Grove Zoo and Oak Grove Nature Center on both days as well as a drawing for a free Amtrak round-trip train ride from Lodi to Los Angeles for two adults and two children.
Following its grand opening, the museum will be open from March 14 to 29, April 4 to 11 and on Saturdays and Sundays thereafter. Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $4 for children ages 2 to 17; $5 for students over 18 with a student ID; $5 for seniors and $6 for adults.
