Survey to measure citizens' concerns
The city of Lodi wants the public's opinion on what is needed in the community during the next five years. An online survey is available at www.lodi.gov/community_development/Neighborhoods/CDBG.html. It is at the bottom of the page.
The survey will help Lodi decide what the most pressing needs are for Community Development Block Grant funding. The survey asks people to mark how much Lodi needs things like historic preservation, street lighting, child care services, housing counseling and storefront improvements.
Paper copies are available by calling the city of Lodi Community Development Department at 333-6711.
During the 2009-10 city fiscal year, starting in July, Lodi will apply for its own block grants directly. Previously, the city applied through San Joaquin County.
The city is also asking for possible projects that qualify for the block grants. Project applications must be turned in by March 11. The Lodi City Council will have a public hearing on the applications on April 1 at 7 p.m. in Carnegie Forum, 305 W. Pine St.
Forms to submit a project are available to download on Lodi's Web site.
Water Commission board members appointed
Vice Mayor Phil Katzakian and Public Works Director Wally Sandelin have been reappointed as Lodi's representatives to the San Joaquin County Advisory Water Commission.
Additionally, Garry Duncan, of Woodbridge, was chosen for the county's Assessment Appeals Board, which reviews the taxable value of property. Duncan was chosen over two other applicants, W. Russell Fields, of Acampo, and Steven Avila, of Tracy.
The appointments were made Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors.
Gavin Newsom will visit Stockton
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who has announced his candidacy for governor in the 2010 election, will conduct a town-hall meeting tonight at University of the Pacific in Stockton.
Newsom, a Democrat known for performing marriage ceremonies for gay couples in San Francisco, will host "A Conversation About California's Future" at UOP's Don and Karen DeRosa University Center, 3601 Pacific Ave., at 6 p.m. University spokesman Patrick Giblin said that Newsom's appearance is not a university-sponsored event.
Due to athletic events on campus today, people attending the Newsom townhall meeting should park on the north side of campus and use the Woods Memorial Bridge to walk to the University Center, Giblin said.
For more information, call (415) 516-1252.
Editor's Note: The item on the block grants was updated at 11:53 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 to correct the application deadline and hearing date.
