Survey to measure citizens' concerns

By News-Sentinel Staff
Thursday, February 12, 2009 11:52 AM PST

The city of Lodi wants the public's opinion on what is needed in the community during the next five years. An online survey is available at www.lodi.gov/community_development/Neighborhoods/CDBG.html. It is at the bottom of the page.

The survey will help Lodi decide what the most pressing needs are for Community Development Block Grant funding. The survey asks people to mark how much Lodi needs things like historic preservation, street lighting, child care services, housing counseling and storefront improvements.

Paper copies are available by calling the city of Lodi Community Development Department at 333-6711.

During the 2009-10 city fiscal year, starting in July, Lodi will apply for its own block grants directly. Previously, the city applied through San Joaquin County.

The city is also asking for possible projects that qualify for the block grants. Project applications must be turned in by March 11. The Lodi City Council will have a public hearing on the applications on April 1 at 7 p.m. in Carnegie Forum, 305 W. Pine St.

Forms to submit a project are available to download on Lodi's Web site.

Water Commission board members appointed

Vice Mayor Phil Katzakian and Public Works Director Wally Sandelin have been reappointed as Lodi's representatives to the San Joaquin County Advisory Water Commission.

Additionally, Garry Duncan, of Woodbridge, was chosen for the county's Assessment Appeals Board, which reviews the taxable value of property. Duncan was chosen over two other applicants, W. Russell Fields, of Acampo, and Steven Avila, of Tracy.

The appointments were made Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors.

Gavin Newsom will visit Stockton

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who has announced his candidacy for governor in the 2010 election, will conduct a town-hall meeting tonight at University of the Pacific in Stockton.

Newsom, a Democrat known for performing marriage ceremonies for gay couples in San Francisco, will host "A Conversation About California's Future" at UOP's Don and Karen DeRosa University Center, 3601 Pacific Ave., at 6 p.m. University spokesman Patrick Giblin said that Newsom's appearance is not a university-sponsored event.

Due to athletic events on campus today, people attending the Newsom townhall meeting should park on the north side of campus and use the Woods Memorial Bridge to walk to the University Center, Giblin said.

For more information, call (415) 516-1252.

Editor's Note: The item on the block grants was updated at 11:53 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 to correct the application deadline and hearing date.

" Loadeye... not your fault at all. Please let me know if your computer still has a problem accessing the survey. The public computers at the Library may be an option, or I can provide a hard copy for you to fill out and return. Please let me know what you need. jw "

" Thank you for the esplanation Mr. Wood. I just tried again and still get the can't be accessed page. I'll try again in the morning and if not, I'll check my settings. Had you not responded, I would have had no idea it was my fault. Thank you. "

" Loadeye, I've checked the link from a number of different locations and I haven't had any trouble. I'm not sure whether there may be settings on your computer that block the connection through the link. I'd be very happy to either get you a hard copy for you to complete or work toward getting you access to the on-line survey. Any one having trouble accessing the on-line survey, please contact me at 333-6800 x2467. jw "

" You've got to be kidding me, this webpage survey says, it cannot show the page? More city of Lodi bungling? Can I get a copy at Katzakian's Lodi Printing? How much grave printing work does he get from the city and their good ol' boys? ROFLMAO Why not just mail one to each registered voter? I'm still getting an envelope with my city utility bill, like I have for 5 years now, even though I have auto pay. Who pays for and prints those? Why do we keep wasting money on envelopes that're thrown away each month by many customers like myself. Use those monthly throwaways to send a monthly newsletter letting us citizens know how much more Lodi goes into debt each week, or at least a report of Hansen's newest scam with the NCPA to further gouge us on our electric rates.
