Delta trustee applicants to be interviewed on Jan. 14
With the resignation of Trustee Maria Elena Serna, the San Joaquin Delta College Board of Trustees is seeking a new trustee to represent the Lodi area. Reeves served as the president of the Lodi Chamber of Commerce's board of directors in 2000 as well as serving on the board from 1990 to 1997 and in 1999 and 2001. In addition to the chamber board, Reeves served on the Lodi Unified School District Measure K Bond Oversight Committee from 2002 to 2007 and is currently a member of the district's Budget Advisory Committee.
If he were appointed to the board, Reeves said he would support taking another look at how the college allocated Measure L bond funding.
"I would say that, yes, I think the whole process needs to be looked at again," he said, adding that he thought there could be a more "equitable" solution to spending the bond proceeds.
"I'm certainly not against a Tracy and/or Mountain House location, but maybe on a smaller scale to allow something to be done in Lodi, too," he said.
Personal statement: "One of my key goals personally and professionally has been to offer my time to improve my community, and I feel this position helps me further that goal. ... In the decisions and behavior of a trustee one must be honest to oneself and those you represent. You need to be a trusted source for information from the outside or inside and be able to use that information and your knowledge to make proper, logical decisions that will not only benefit my district, but the entire college."
Next steps in the process
All applicants will take part in an "orientation meeting" on Thursday to better understand the role and obligations of being a trustee at San Joaquin Delta College.Greg Greenwood, college spokesman, said all of the current trustees received a rating sheet with each application packet. The applicants who receive the highest marks based on their answers and background will move on to the interview round.
"That follows the college's normal procedure of hirings," Greenwood said.
Applicants will be interviewed by the trustees during a public meeting on Jan. 14.
The trustees are expected to make a decision on Jan. 20 and the new trustee is scheduled to be sworn in on Feb. 3.
