Athlete of the Week
Ryan Gaarder dialed in from long range
Accomplishment: The Lodi High boys basketball team has been deadly from 3-point range this season, but Ryan Gaarder rose to another level from downtown last week.

The 6-foot-1 junior guard hit three 3-pointers and scored 12 straight points late in the game to lift the Flames over Valley 68-62.
The lights-out shooting erased a nine-point deficit Lodi had in the third quarter and led to the win. Gaarder finished the contest with a game-high 19 points, including four 3s.
Family: Rick and Lisa Gaarder, parents.
Favorite sport: "Basketball, because I have been playing it all my life and it's fun to watch. It's really fast-paced."
Favorite athlete: Kobe Bryant. "I watch him every time he's on TV. He's really good at basketball and he leads his team. He has a great heart and has won championships."
Favorite hobbies: Playing basketball, football or baseball as well as watching TV, chilling with friends and sleeping.
Favorite subject: History. "I just like learning about what happened before I was born and what happened back in the day."
Would like to meet: Kobe Bryant or LeBron James.
Crowning achievement: Winning the league championship in his freshman year and going 10-0.
Plans: Go to college and play basketball after high school.
The Athlete of the Week is selected by the News-Sentinel sports staff. Nominations are gladly accepted. Gaarder will receive a T-shirt courtesy of Lodi Sporting Goods for being selected.
