Woman arrested
after teen robbed
A 21-year-old Lodi woman is behind bars after she and a man allegedly robbed an acquaintance at gunpoint.
Danette Padilla was jailed on suspicion of robbery, and Lodi police said they are still seeking a second suspect.
The incident began around 8 p.m. Thursday at Lockeford Street and Loma Drive, when the suspects spoke to an 18-year-old man by phone and offered him a ride. Padilla picked him up in a van.
Then a man wearing a black bandana over his face appeared from the behind the back seat, choked the victim and pointed a gun at his head, Sgt. Fernando Martinez said after reviewing a report on the matter. The suspect threatened to kill the teen if he didn't empty his pockets.
Padilla then allegedly pulled a gun out of her purse and also pointed it at the teenager, threatening to kill him if he didn't obey the man's orders, Martinez said.
The teen gave them his wallet and cell phone, and Padilla dropped him off uninjured at Loma Drive and Turner Road. He then ran to a friend's house and called police.
Officers took the teen in a patrol car so he could point out where he believed one of the suspects lived, but on the way they spotted the van at a gas station. Police ultimately stopped it at Lockeford and California streets, and arrested Padilla.
The male suspect was not in the van and police did not find any guns or the victim's property, Martinez said.
Officers are following leads on the male suspect.
Wind blamed for Christmas Day outage
A windblown palm frond caused a widespread power outage in Lodi on Christmas Day.
The frond blew into a transmission line just before 3 p.m., cutting service to about 8,000 customers, said George Morrow, electric utility director.
Power was out in an area roughly bounded by Lodi Avenue to the north; Stockton Street to the east; Harney Lane to the south; and Lower Sacramento Road to the west.
Crews repaired the damage and restored power at 4:08 p.m., Morrow said.
