The latest news on local athletes who are continuing to play at the college or pro levels.

Mike Caffese
Sport: Basketball
High School: Tokay
College: Azusa Pacific
Caffese, a sophomore starting point guard, had five points, one rebound and one assist in a 79-69 loss to The Master's College on Friday. Caffese had five rebounds, three assists and two points for the Cougars (5-3) in a 98-66 win over Johnson and Wales on Saturday.

Lucas Birchard
Sport: Basketball
High School: Elliot Christian
College: William Jessup Univ.
Birchard, a senior wingman, had 22 points, 15 rebounds, two blocks and two steals for Jessup (4-7) in a 76-55 win over Golden State Baptist on Dec. 5.

He had 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 89-69 win over Bendigo on Dec. 6.

In last Thursday's 68-52 win over Menlo, Birchard had seven points, four rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals.

Julius Thomas
Sport: Basketball
High School: Tokay
College: Portland State
Thomas, the team's sixth man, had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Vikings in a 77-66 win over Lewis and Clark at home last Tuesday. He added four points and four rebounds in an 84-83 loss to Washington on Thursday for Portland State (7-2).

Aaron Wilson
Sport: Basketball
High School: Lodi
College: Sacramento State
Wilson had six points and four rebounds in a 64-44 loss to Utah Valley last Tuesday. He had two points and one rebound for the Hornets (1-8) in a 76-65 loss to New Mexico State at Las Cruces on Thursday.

Nick Rhodes
Sport: Football
High School: Tokay
College: NW Missouri State
Rhodes, a senior wide receiver for the Bearcats (13-2), had four receptions for 61 yards and no touchdowns in a 21-14 loss to Minnesota-Duluth in the NCAA Division II championship game at Florence, Alabama on Saturday.

Ryan Mattheus
Sport: Baseball
High School: Galt
Pro: Colorado Rockies
The right-handed reliever, who spent the 2008 season with the Class-AA Tulsa Drillers, was recently added to the Rockies' 40-man roster.

Mattheus, 25, went 2-5 with a 3.28 ERA and had a team-high 17 saves for the Drillers. He had 56 strikeouts and 27 walks in 57.2 innings of work.

Sport: Basketball
High School: Galt
College: Delta
Dela Cruz had 23 points in Delta's 83-72 loss to Foothill last Friday.
