Driver, passengers flee after collision Downtown
Two cars collided at the corner of Church and Locust streets at around 6:15 on Monday evening when the driver of a Lincoln Continental reportedly ran a stop sign and crashed into the back of a white Dodge Ram pickup.
Tricia Hurtado, the driver of the truck, was driving south on Church Street, heading home from work when the accident occurred. She swerved to avoid the Continental that was heading west as it ran the stop, however, the car still slammed into the right back tire area of her pickup, she said.
The force of the crash knocked the pickup's tire inward and destroyed the front end of the Continental.
Witnesses reported that three males dressed in black grabbed items from the Lincoln — including a white pit bull puppy — and fled east on Locust Street. They saw two females flee west on Locust.
Police caught up with the male passengers, while a third person, believed to be
the driver, and the female subjects, were still being tracked down by police.
Lodi Police reported that they do not believe the Lincoln was stolen, and do not have any information on why the driver fled the scene. It was not known if any of theContinental's occupants were injured, but Hurtado was shook up and complained of back pain.
