• Navy Seaman Recruit Spain
Navy Seaman Recruit Michael L. Spain recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Spain completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations." This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet.
Spain is a 2007 graduate of Bear Creek High School. He is the son of Susan J. Spain, of Valley Springs, and Rodger A. Spain, of Stockton.
• Navy Seaman Recruit Dinh
Navy Seaman Recruit Lyna Dihn recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

• Marine Corps Sgt. Stout
Marine Corps Sgt. John M. Stout recently reported for duty with Marine Air Support Squadron Two, Marine Air Control Group 18 in Okinawa, Japan.
Stout is a 2003 graduate of Galt High School. He is the son of John N. Stout, of Galt.
