John Aschwanden
Head of maintenance
John Aschwanden, 84, of Galt, died Dec. 1. He was born on Feb. 7, 1924, in Vallejo.
Mr. Aschwanden was a lifelong resident of Galt. As his first job, he was a milk truck driver for Pet Milk in Galt. Later, he became a maintenance supervisor for Super Mold Corp. in Lodi and eventually retired as head of maintenance for the Galt School District.
Mr. Aschwanden was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church and an active member of the Ripon Swiss Club. He enjoyed dancing, traditional Swiss music, restoring old tractors, gardening and troubleshooting all types of mechanical and engineering problems for family, friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Arlene Aschwanden, of Galt; sons, Carl Aschwanden, of Elk Grove, and Gerald Aschwanden, of Stockton; brother, Harry Aschwanden, of Herald; sister, Aileen Heim, of St. Louis; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Galt. Committal will follow at Galt Cemetery. The rosary will be recited and visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until the service at the church.
Ben Salas Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
