Steve Cockrum comes out on fire for Flames
Accomplishment: Senior guard/forward Steve Cockrum had a hot hand as Lodi High's boys basketball team opened the preseason with victories over Sierra and Vista del Lago last week.

Cockrum knocked down three 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 17 points in a 61-41 victory over Sierra in the season opener last Wednesday. He followed that up with a 23-point performance, including four 3s, in Lodi's 82-60 come-from-behind win over Vista del Lago last Friday.
Family: Rod and Kathleen Cockrum, parents; two sisters.
Favorite sport: Basketball. "It's the most fun because it's not-stop," Cockrum said.
Favorite athlete: Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose. "He just keeps going," Cockrum said of the rookie.
Favorite hobbies: Playing basketball and hanging out with friends.
Favorite subject: Sports medicine. "It's a fun class and we learn how to prevent injuries," Cockrum said.
Would like to meet: Rapper Andre Nickatina (formerly known as Dre Dog). "He's awesome at what he does," Cockrum said.
Crowning achievement: Leading his team in scoring the past two games. It was a breakout week for Cockrum, who was a reserve last season. He said he spent a lot of time working on his shot and speed during the offseason.
Plans: Cockrum plans to attend a four-year school and get rich.
