Lodi man reports being shot in chest
A Lodi man is recovering from a gunshot wound he told authorities he received while he was walking near Highway 99 north of Armstrong Road on Sunday morning.
The 30-year-old man told San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputies that he was walking on the Highway 99 East Frontage Road around 7:20 a.m. when he heard a gunshot and felt a pain in his chest. He said the bullet came from a vehicle, according to a Sheriff's report.
The man walked to a friend's house nearby, where he was given some minor first aid. Someone in the home dialed 9-1-1 an hour later, when the man said his arm was going numb and he felt cold, according to the report.
An ambulance took the man to a local hospital for treatment.
The man did not cooperate with deputies, and several witnesses had no additional information.
Sheriff's spokesman Les Garcia did not know Monday if the shooting was related to a call Lodi police handled later that day.
In that incident, Lodi officers were called to Lodi Memorial Hospital to stand by while an ambulance took a man to mental health. He had apparently shot himself in the chest that morning and was being disruptive in the hospital, according to Lodi police.
Lodi officers did not get involved in the case or write reports on their minor involvement. The two officers sent to the hospital were off duty Monday, so no further information was available.

County education official honored
An official with the San Joaquin County Office of Education was recently honored by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell.
O'Connell named Mick Founts, of Manteca, among his list of educators he wanted to thank. Founts is Deputy Superintendent of Student Programs and Services at the San Joaquin County Office of Education. He offers continuous support and perseverance to help underserved students, according to the press release released by O'Connell's office.
As examples of selfless service to California's school children, O'Connell recognized contributions from teachers, community volunteers, parents, paraeducators and school administrators.
"So many people work tirelessly, and often without recognition, to help our students and schools succeed," he said in the statement. "I wish I could publicly thank each person by name, but let me recognize some of these individuals on behalf of the thousands of others who give willingly of their time, money and talents."
