Elizabeth 'Betty' Stewart
Librarian
Elizabeth "Betty" Stewart, 74, of Lodi, died on Nov. 28. She was born Elizabeth Trowbridge in Nyack, N.Y.
Mrs. Stewart moved to Lodi with her family in 1948. She graduated from Lodi High School in 1952 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree at San Jose State in 1956. Later, after raising her children with first husband, E.W. "Bill" Dunn, Elizabeth returned to school at Fresno State where she received her Librarian Credential. In 1979, she met and married her second husband, Robert C. Stewart.
Elizabeth spent twenty years as the East/West Campus Librarian at HUHS. She also established the HUHS Hall of Fame and Centennial Celebration in 1992. Elizabeth was a member of the Kings County Retired Teachers Association, Kings County Art Guild, AAUW, and Happy Bookers and Book Buddies. She was also a life long blood donor and a member of many bridge groups including the Thursday night "Grand Slammers." She enjoyed dressing up and entertaining children with story time at local schools and the Hanford Library and, after retirement, enjoyed traveling with her husband and enjoying time with family and friends.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Robert Stewart, of Lodi; sons, Bill Dunn, Robb Stewart, Tom Dunn, and Tim Stewart, all of Lodi; daughters, Catherine Kornreich, Janice Kelsey and Margaret Dunn, all of Lodi; and ten grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Huber.
A celebration of her life was held Monday at the Lakeside Community Church in Hanford.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent's De Paul Society, 115 W. 5th St., Hanford, CA; or to the Salvation Army in Hanford.
