A Stockton man was arrested after he reportedly evaded police officers after being involved in a single-vehicle collision at 2:13 p.m. on Sylvia Drive near Ham Lane, according to Lodi police.

Jason Ray Pierce, 26, was arrested after he attempted to enter a rear sliding-glass door of a home on Cortez Way, police said. The homeowner pushed him back and closed the door, preventing Pierce from entering. The homeowner yelled for police who were in front of the home, and Pierce was taken into custody, police said.

Pierce wasn't injured in the traffic collision, but complained of chest pains at the time of his arrest, police said. He was treated and released from Lodi Memorial Hospital.

Pierce was captured after running from an off-duty officer with a black backpack he took from the trunk of the vehicle he was driving, police said. The officer chased Pierce a short distance until he saw him drop what appeared to be a sword, police said. The officer then followed Pierce until on-duty officers arrived in the area, police said.

Officers established a perimeter around a city block in the area of Vine Street and Ham Lane. Pierce jumped fences in yards within the perimeter and entered homes before being captured, police said. In the process, he lost his clothing when it was ripped by snags and nails while he was climbing fences, police said.

Woman crashes into building

A woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after crashing into a vacant building at 1:40 a.m. Saturday at 788 W. Kettleman Lane, according to Lodi police.

The storefront, located behind Carl's Jr., had significant damage to the front, including the glass doors, police said.

The woman, whose name was not available Sunday, was driving south on Crescent Avenue and crossed Kettleman Lane into the building, police said.

Two Galt residents injured in Florida crash

A 19-year-old Galt woman was in serious but stable condition Sunday afternoon at a hospital in Daytona Beach, Fla., according to a hospital spokesman.

Rhonda R. Christman, 19, and Jason T. Christman, whose name was not available, were injured last week in a crash that killed a 60-year-old man from Palm Coast, Fla., and injured two others, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

The accident took place about 11:20 p.m. EST on Wednesday on southbound Interstate 95 about five miles south of the U.S. 1 intersection in Flagler County, the News-Journal reported.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Jason Christman attempted to change lanes in his pick-up truck, but it went into the emergency lane then back onto the road, where it went into the center lane and struck the right rear of another car, causing both of them to spin and overturn, according to the News-Journal.

Michael L. Crow, 60, a passenger in the other car, was killed when he was thrown from the car as it flipped several times, the newspaper reported. The driver of Crow's car, Michael L. Jarvis, 35, of Palm Coast, Fla., suffered serious injuries and was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. Another passenger in the car, Marla Tremel, 41, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to another hospital.

Jason Christman suffered minor injuries. He and Rhonda Christman were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center.

The Florida Highway Patrol was unavailable for comment Sunday.

" It's good to read the suspect from Stockton and the drunk lady were arrested. As for the accident in Florida, there's one line I don't understand:

*Rhonda R. Christman, 19, and Jason T. Christman, whose name was not available...*

Obviously, since you printed his name, it was available. Did you mean that his *age* was not available? "

" Hey Mad: like the old saying goes, you can never find a cop when you need one. looks like the same holds true concerning a K-9. At least the bad guy was arrested, and bravo to the off-duty officer for his devotion to duty. "

" I hate it when I lose my clothing during a foot chase. Where was the police dog when it was needed. Take a bite out of crime? How about take a bite out of a criminal! "
