A 'yes' vote on 8 was not a vote for hate

I found out a lot about myself since this last election. Apparently, because I voted "yes" on Proposition 8, I am a hater.

And here I thought my position was much more complex. I guess I am wrong as the pro-gay marriage supporters are out in their loving kindness, pushing around 69-year-old grandmothers, including a couple of blows to the head — battery — taking away her sign — grand theft person — attempting to permanently deprive — a felony — knocking her cross to the ground and stomping on it, painting graffiti on private property —vandalism — and making threats to those who made contributions to support Proposition 8 — civil rights violation and voter intimidation. I guess I should get with the program and learn to be kind and loving like this also. Just one question, where do I go to receive training and buy my "unruly and uncivilized thug" kit so I can intimidate defenseless senior citizens like you "lovers?"

Better yet, since this issue appears that it is not going away, why don't we have an open, calm, mature and public debate regarding the facts. I am sure that unless you are heterophobic we can have a good discussion. The problem for you would be that this would give me the opportunity to introduce facts to discount your fallacious arguments and to point out that you do not want equal rights, you want superior rights, as has been experienced in other countries that have gay marriage.

I clearly do not have enough room to go into every detail of my position opposing gay marriage in this editorial, but to start, a civil union has the exact same rights as a marriage. The only difference is the word "marriage," which has been a religious term for 5,000 years. I must ask everyone out there, if they support gay marriage, do they also support gay bar mitzvah? What the homosexual community really wants is respect for their personal choice. I must tell you I have never heard anybody say "that David Gibbons, what a great heterosexual."
