Street closures for funeral procession announced
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department has announced the timing of road closures for Thursday's law enforcement procession for sheriff's deputy Larry Canfield, 43, who grew up in Galt and was killed in a motorcycle accident while on duty Nov. 12 in Rancho Cordova.
Galt will have the following road closures on Thursday:
• Joy Drive will be closed between Kost Road and H Street from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Kost Road will be closed from Lincoln Way to Raven Brook Drive from noon to 3 p.m.
• Lincoln Way will be closed from Kost Road to Cornell Road from noon to 2 p.m.
Heavy traffic causing delays can be expected throughout central Galt Thursday afternoon, according to sheriff's spokesman Tim Curran.
On southbound Highway 99, the California Highway Patrol will conduct rolling traffic breaks and intermittent ramp closures between Sheldon Road in Elk Grove and Liberty Road, south of Galt for the procession beginning at about 12:30 p.m.
A memorial service for Canfield will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Elk Grove, 8939 E. Stockton Blvd., just south of Sheldon Road. A graveside service will be held after the procession at Galt Cemetery, 14180 Joy Drive, followed by a reception, which Curran said is for law enforcement personnel only, at Littleton Community Center, 410 Civic Drive, Galt.
