Elliot runner Megan Crutchfield headed to state
Accomplishment: Elliot High runner Megan Crutchfield advanced to the state championships with a second-place showing at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V cross country meet last weekend in Folsom.

Crutchfield, a junior, finished the three-mile course with a time of 23 minutes, 43 seconds and was the only Elliot runner to qualify for the state meet.
Family: Jerry and Teri Crutchfield, parents; one sister.
Favorite sport: Cross country. "I just started in high school and took to it naturally," Crutchfield said.
Favorite athlete: Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.
"He's really funny and seems like a really nice guy. He's a good sport and good athlete," Crutchfield said.
Favorite hobbies: Hanging out with family and friends and shopping, especially for shoes.
Favorite subject: Math. Crutchfield said it comes easy to her and she enjoys solving problems.
Would like to meet: Jesus. "Because he's perfect and my savior and I love him very much. He's always there for me and helps me through life," Crutchfield said.
Crowning achievement: Being a two-time recipient of the Debra Award, an honor given to Elliot students that display leadership, a good attitude and a Christian character.
Plans: Crutchfield plans to attend a four-year Christian school and is considering going into teaching. She also plans to continue running in college.
The Athlete of the Week is selected by the News-Sentinel sports staff. Nominations are gladly accepted. Crutchfield will receive a T-shirt courtesy of Lodi Sporting Goods for being selected.
