Correctional officer accused of domestic violence; bail at $300,000

A Folsom State Prison correctional officer was arraigned in Lodi court Tuesday on multiple felony charges relating to a weekend domestic altercation at his Acampo home.

Dale Harrison Ervin Jr., 30, is accused of dragging his wife by the hair through their Dustin Road home on Sunday, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office. He allegedly armed himself with two guns, threatened to kill her family, and wouldn't let her leave until the house was cleaned and the bills were paid, according to a Sheriff's report.

The woman ultimately left the home and went to Lodi police, who contacted Sheriff's deputies. They arrested Ervin at his home.

A Lodi judge on Tuesday set bail at $300,000 and scheduled a Nov. 26 court date, as well as a tentative Dec. 3 preliminary hearing.

Prosecutors charged Ervin with one felony count each of domestic violence, making criminal threats, false imprisonment and dissuading a witness. He also faces allegations of using a gun in the commission of a felony, which can add up to 10 years to a prison sentence.

At the time of his arrest, Ervin was employed as a correctional officer at Folsom State Prison. His status is under review, and officials are waiting for more information from Sheriff's deputies, said Lt. David Zaniroli, a spokesman at the prison.

Ervin is a six-year employee of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Funeral procession to tie up traffic on Thursday from Elk Grove to Galt

Motorists on southbound Highway 99 from Elk Grove to Galt can expect traffic delays on Thursday due to a funeral procession for Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy Larry Canfield, who was killed in a motorcycle accident last week in Rancho Cordova, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The two-hour law enforcement procession will leave First Baptist Church in Elk Grove at about 12:30 p.m. Southbound Highway 99 will be closed between Elk Grove and Liberty Road for the entire length of the procession, according to Sheriff's spokesman Tim Curran.

The procession will begin at about 12:30 p.m. and head north from the church on East Stockton Boulevard in Elk Grove, west on Sheldon Drive, south on Highway 99, west on Liberty Road, north on Lower Sacramento Road, west on Kost Road and north on Joy Drive to Galt Cemetery.

A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Elk Grove, 8939 E. Stockton Blvd.

After the graveside service at Galt Cemetery, a reception — for law enforcement personnel only — will be held at Littleton Community Center, 410 Civic Drive, Galt.

Galt youth commission meeting on Thursday

The Galt Area Youth Coalition will hold its last meeting of the year Thursday at which time members' efforts and accomplishments will be recognized.

The group meets from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the library of Greer Elementary School, 248 A St., Galt.

The next Galt Area Youth Commission is scheduled for Jan. 22.

Wanted: Holiday cards for U.S. soldiers

Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, is seeking personalized holiday cards to thank soldiers for their bravery and service.

McNerney will collect holiday cards for soldiers recovering from battle and those stationed away from their families for the holiday season. He said he will hand-deliver the cards to soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., sailors and marines at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., and to National Guard and Reserve soldiers at Parks Reserve Forces Training Area in Dublin.

McNerney is asking constituents to create or purchase a holiday card, write a message of thanks to a service member and deliver it to McNerney's offices in Stockton or Pleasanton by Dec. 10. Cards should remain unaddressed and envelopes unsealed. McNerney's staff will address and seal the envelopes.
