Man allegedly threatened to kill wife

An Acampo man is behind bars after allegedly dragging his wife by the hair, arming himself with two guns and threatening to kill her.

Dale Harrison Ervin Jr., 30, was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on Sunday, where is being held on $775,000 bail.

Ervin and his wife of nine years got into an argument at their Dustin Road home, and in the process he ordered her to her knees and threatened to kill her and her family, according to a report from the Sheriff's Office. He allegedly dragged her about 30 feet through the house, leaving her with head pain and a small bruise.

Then Ervin allegedly armed himself with a handgun and rifle, telling his wife she couldn't leave until she had cleaned the house and paid the bills, according to the report. He took all keys to their vehicles and also moved a vehicle to block the driveway.

The wife eventually left and went to the Lodi Police Department, where officers called the Sheriff's Office. Deputies went to the home and arrested Ervin.

Ervin was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, dissuading a witness and making threats. He is scheduled to appear today in Lodi court.

Services Thursday for sheriff's deputy

Two services will be held Thursday for Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy Larry Canfield, who was killed in a motorcycle accident last week in Rancho Cordova.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Elk Grove, 8939 E. Stockton Blvd. After the service, a procession will head to Galt Cemetery, where a graveside service will be held. The cemetery is at 14180 Joy Drive, Galt.

After the graveside service, a reception — for law enforcement personnel only — will be held at Littleton Community Center, 410 Civic Drive, Galt.

Canfield, 43, a 1982 Galt High graduate, was killed while riding his sheriff's motorcycle westbound on Coloma Road in Rancho Cordova. He was on duty as a deputy on contract with the Rancho Cordova Police Department.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Canfield attempted to overtake a speeding vehicle at 1:52 p.m. Wednesday when a Toyota Camry driven by Thomas Lake, 79, of Sacramento, made a left turn in front of Canfield into the parking lot of a Catholic church.

After the collision, Canfield's motorcycle went out of control and struck a sign post, according to the CHP report. He was ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the road. He was taken to Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmichael, where he was pronounced dead.

CHP officials said the cause of the collision was still under investigation.

Sieglock lead narrowed in Assembly race

Republican Jack Sieglock's lead over Democrat Alyson Huber in the 10th Assembly District race has narrowed to 946 votes.

In an update of the vote count last week, Sieglock was leading with 84,175 votes (46.9 percent), while Huber had 83,229 votes (46.3 percent). Libertarian Janice Bonser trailed with 12,229 (6.8 percent).

Sieglock had a 1,025-vote lead on election night.

"We're still very optimistic, but it's taking a long time," Sieglock said Monday.

Huber said she's still waiting for every vote to be counted. The four counties in the district — San Joaquin, Sacramento, Amador and El Dorado — have until Dec. 2 to tabulate vote-by-mail and provisional ballots. But Sieglock said he expects a fairly definitive result by Thursday.
