Galt man arrested on suspicion of threatening, robbing grandmother
A Galt man is behind bars after allegedly forcing his grandmother to take money out of her bank account for him and then threatening her.
Christopher Blach, 23, was arrested at gunpoint Saturday night after police found him at his grandmother's house pounding on the front door.
Blach, who is on probation for a felony drug conviction in March, is jailed on $90,000 bail. He is being held on suspicion of robbery, kidnapping, elder abuse, making threats and destroying a phone line.
The incident started Friday at the home where Blach has been living for about four months after being released from jail, Sgt. Chuck Dedricksen said after reviewing reports on the case. Blach asked his grandmother for money, she refused and he began demanding funds, according to police.
In the process, Blach pulled the phone cord out of the wall, threatened his grandmother and ordered her to drive to the bank and withdraw money, Dedricksen said. The woman did so, with Blach allegedly following.
After the woman gave her grandson cash, he fled. She called police, who followed leads to Sacramento but couldn't find Blach.
In the process, they learned that Blach has a handgun registered in his name, Dedricksen said.
Then at 6:25 p.m.. the grandmother called police and reported that Blach was on her roof, Dedricksen said. The man was gone when officers arrived.
But 40 minutes later she called police again to report that Blach was at her front door, demanding that she let him inside.
Four officers arrived and heard Blach yelling at the back door, and they arrested him at gunpoint, Dedricksen said. No gun was found on Blach, who was booked into the Sacramento County Jail.
Blach is scheduled to appear in court today, though he also has a January court date on the previous drug charge.
In that case, related to a March incident, Blach pleaded no contest to a felony count of possessing a controlled substance, according to court records. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail and placed on four years of probation, but he violated the probation in May. His probation has since been reinstated, and Blach was last in court Oct. 31.
