Regional Roundup
Local residents can't burn today
People in Lodi and San Joaquin County are prohibited from burning today, according to the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District.
The district regulates burning during the winter to control air pollution. On days when burning is prohibited, burning any solid fuel such as wood, pellets or manufactured wood is barred.
When burning is allowed, residents are advised to use dry, seasoned wood to avoid excessive smoke.
It is always illegal to burn trash or other materials not intended for a fireplace.
For more information on wood-burning days, up-to-date advisories or other information, contact the air district at (209) 557-6400 or visit www.valleyair.org.
Bank donates $10,000 to Lodi Adopt-A-Child
Bank of the West has donated $10,000 to Lodi Adopt-A-Child, one of the largest single donations in the history of the group.
The money will cover a shopping spree for children held earlier this year at K-Mart, said Jerry Glenn, president of the Adopt-A-Child board. Adopt-A-Child provides shopping sprees and Christmas bicycles for needy children in Lodi.
Glenn wished to publicly thank Bank of the West and local manager Shawn Fulton.
"We're so grateful and delighted with this donation. It shows a real spirit of community caring and generosity," he said.
Adopt-A-Child is entering its busiest time of year, Glenn noted, and further donations are needed. For further information, call Glenn at 327-0494.
