Accomplishment: Lodi High No. 2 singles player Alison Simon recently finished her four-year high school career with an undefeated record in San Joaquin Athletic Association regular season matches. The senior went 10-0 in league this year on her way to a 24-2 mark including all scrimmage and tournament matches.

Last week, Simon was the only Flames' singles player to record a win over Tracy in a match that Lodi went onto win and by doing so sealed its SJAA Title.

In SJAA play, Simon won most of her matches decidedly, having lost only one set all season. Lodi head coach Dennis Sebastian said Simon, who he admires for her sportsmanship, isn't the hardest hitter, but wears out her opponents with her relentless approach of returning the ball — even if it is 40 times.

"She is very motivated person and she motivates her teammates and she even motivate me as a coach just with her presence," Sebastian said.

Family: Father Ron and mother Julie; two brothers and one sister.

Favorite sport: Tennis. It's because it is such an exciting sport to play. It gets my heart rate up. I've played since I was seven.

Favorite athlete: Roger Federer. I like the way he covers the court and his footwork is just awesome.

Favorite hobbies: I take vacations with my family and we go boogie boarding and we surf. Usually we go to Santa Cruz.

Favorite subject: Anatomy because it is cool to learn about the human body and I have a really good teacher.

Would like to meet: (Actor) Shia LeBeouf because "Even Stevens" was just a crackup and "Disturbia" was insanely good.

Crowning achievement: Winning all my league singles tennis matches in high school and just never backing it down and always giving it all I've got.

Plans: I am going go to go to Delta for two years and then hopefully I'll be transferring to UCSB (the University of California at Santa Barbara) to study health and exercise science. Delta doesn't have a tennis team, so my coach wants me to play in tournaments so I can try and play in college. Even if it is not for school, I will definitely still be playing.

The Athlete of the Week is selected by the News-Sentinel sports staff. Nominations are gladly accepted. Simon will receive a T-shirt courtesy of Lodi Sporting Goods for being selected.
